Fade to black, can it really be?
The film has ended; there is nothing left to see.
"Sleep now", say others as they start to go;
Some are yawning, as they’re filing from each row.
Why do they leave?
It’s only been three hours straight!
I can’t believe
That they aren’t fans enough to wait -
Well, I’ll stay here, the credits are screening...
What can I see? The film has ended,
Why do the white words scroll?
Across the screen, in tiny letters
Name after name starting to roll.
The audience turns, and out they pass.
They’re leaving the theatre - soon I’ll be last.
Dark fades, a spotty usher’s light;
Into the bin-bags spill the popcorn, Coke and Sprite,
Don’t say
We have come now to the end.
I’d watch it over,
But I’ve got nothing left to spend.
I try to stand, and to go, but I’m weeping...
Why must I leave? Why is it over?
What was left on the cutting room floor?
Now I must wait till it’s extended.
The curtains close. When will there be more?
And silence falls; I look around.
The theatre stands empty - not one sound...
Only I’m left.
