Seriously, She (he, it, they, them) doesn't. No, instead it is misplaced assistance... like a "there there" pat that just happens to push you off the side of the cliff that you are standing next to while brooding on the fact that life just seems to be going just a little better than before.
Before you climbed out of the ditch you were laying in after deciding that life was horrible.
So, you climb out and look at the view, admire the sky, and there she is, ready to give you that little nudge of "go on with your life now young one" and there you go, feeling the wonder of the wind as it flows past you, the freedom from gravity and weight.
Problem is that old mother nature is a "quid pro quo" kinda lady. The longer you get to feel free, the worse reality (in this case represented by conceptual example: ground) is going to come back at you.
Thus leaving realism, you Wile E. Coyote the ground, the longer "flying freedom" the deeper "letdown or impact" affects you.
