In the 1960s and early-1970s
"ITC" [a company owned by
Sir Lew Grade] funded a number of "Spy-fi" TV series. Best known of the bunch is ~The Prisoner~ but there were plenty of others.
The Saint, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), Danger Man, The Baron, Gideon's Way, The Champions, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, Stingray, Joe 90, Man in a Suitcase, Strange Report, The Persuaders!, The Adventurer, The Protectors, and 'Return of the Saint'.
One of my favourites being
Department S [despite
Peter Wyngarde a.k.a 'Jason King' being hauled-up before a magistrate for 'cottaging' and subsequently being bankrupted].
It's good to see that there's a slew of episodes available on YouTube:
http://youtu.be/vXCv1iRt80c http://youtu.be/ipXa5UYcxwo The "Department S" theme - along with many others and incidental music for ITC series - was composed by
Ted Astley - who I once met. Intriguing off-fact: his daughter married Pete Townshend of
The Who [who I have not met].
