Series: Team Fortress 2
Character: RED Spy
Timeline: In Badlands, after being caught by the Engineer whilst meddling with his weapons.
Personality: Of all the classes in the Team Fortress teams, the Spy is by far the one with the most personal grudges. Why? It is because he makes things personal, for other people, while keeping himself guarded and distant with the use of his mask. Thanks to this, we do no know much about the Spy. We can easily determine that he is French (though occasionally he will speak Italian or a variety of phrases from other languages. He is always sharply dressed and well presented, though this shows a very skewed set of priorities. His concern for his suits is almost as focused as his concern for himself. Though, this may be his way of reminding others that his clothes are more expensive than their own and therefore should be treated with respect.
On the surface, he can act like a dignified gentleman and he can dress and talk like one, but when it boils down to it he is as petty and rude as any other man on either side. His taunts range from better thought out jabs that hit in the most cruel places and others...well...he tends to make his taunts based on the surface of a person. He makes jabs at appearances, sexuality and living situations and sniggers to himself about this. He's a sneaky character who takes pride in knowing the more intimate details of ones life. After all, how can you mimic an enemy when you haven't slept with their mother?
As a support class, his work is sometimes difficult to see (not just because he becomes invisible either). This leaves him open to be berated by the offensive and defensive classes, and occasionally even the other support classes. However, he has a number of duties to fulfil on the field, all of which cause a great deal of suffering for the others involved. Generally, it is his job to dismantle the machines built by the enemy Engineer with his trusty electro sapper, he does this with great glee. Another large portion of his work revolves around his trusty set of knives, he ends the lives of enemies by sneaking up on them and bringing a knife down into their backs. Most commonly his victims will be Medics and Snipers, which has earned him the nickname of 'Backstabbing Snake'.
While a lot of his personality seems rather detestable, he has his good qualities...at least in some regard. He is referred to as a 'Lady Killer' in his wiki, this is because he is both charming and alluring in both looks and personality. Let's face it, Ladies love a bit of mystery. In his time on base, he was able to coax the BLU scout's Mother into having a brief but intimate affair with him. From pictures collected by BLU Spy, it would appear he treated her kindly, holding her hand and acting like the perfect gentleman with her, it's no wonder why she fell so easily. It should be noted that even while disguised as the BLU Scout, he seems genuinely surprised to see those pictures. Even Spies can be spied on, after all. My personal headcanon is that he did indeed fall for the lady in blue and he truly valued the time he shared with her, but he leads a dangerous life and seeing those pictures reminded him of this. He broke off the affair to protect her and her family (but not the scout).
Background: This will be head canon, because there is no canon. Spy does not have a tragic back story. Just a regular story. He was raised by a single mother in France, he was not abused or really mistreated, but he did envy the lower class families who could experience a real family. He was spoilt by his mother, but she had more important things to focus on. This was when he began to manipulate emotions, when he realised he could talk his way into getting what he wants and when he could sabotage the lives of her various boyfriends. As he grew older, he grew bored with his studies and travelled around, learning languages. Eventually his manipulative nature got him tangled into all sorts of messes, and he loved it. He became a Spy for the thrill of it, to live vicariously through the people he spied on in a time where nobody trusted each other and Spies were highly paid. Eventually, he was offered an independent contract through RED and was quick to snap it up after seeing the amount he was being offered.
Abilities/Additional Notes: He possess a watch that gives him the ability to cloak/become invisible for short periods of time and a disguise kit, filled with masks, that he hides in his cigarette case.
Advocate Note:: Non.
Sample Journal Post:
[There's a moment of shuffling and fussing in the background as the suited man. He's grumbling to himself before he turns toward the 3STP. It seems he's already gotten the hang of the technology here, despite it being a bit of a stretch than what he is used to. He taps at the 3STP in an irritated manner and squints down at it.]
Do you see zis? [He raises a sleeve to it, revealing a small, hardly noticeable stain on the pin-striped fabric.] Zis suit cost more zan your mohzer. I do not know how or when it was damaged in such a way, but I can assure you, ze ramifications of zis tom-foolery will not be worzh ze brief moment of joy.
Sample RP:
Today had been fairly frustrating for the Spy, he watched as his team fumbled and failed on countless occasions to do their basic duties, and yet they had the audacity to bark orders at him (when they could see him). The Soldier, noting that their Scout had once again thrown himself into battle without seeing the consequences, barked an order at the Spy. One that Spy was only happy to oblige.
He had spent most of his day dismantling the sentries of the labourer, but now he had been given the far less complex task of dismantling the Sniper. Spy had been scowling down at the Engineer for some time, irritated that he had been able to rebuild his weapons so quickly. He saw the foolish little snow bunny dash toward him, and he saw the angle that the bullet shot through him. There were more benefits to his death than a few moments of peace and quiet, it seemed.
Slipping back into the shadows, he cloaked himself into the darkness and made haste to find the Sniper. When he saw the all too familiar hunched back he couldn't help but smirk, silently creeping forward, he tossed a rock in the direction of the other man and delighted in the soft crunching noise it made as it hit the ground. As expected, the Sniper immediately took it for a foot step, and the Spy watched as he slashed thin air, finding the want to chuckle near irresistible.
This distraction was what he needed to uncloak, smirking wide as he shimmered back into the light like the masked terror that he was. He remained silent until his balisong was lodged deep in the other's back, letting out a cackle as the Sniper's body tumbled lifelessly away from it's killer. Twirling the balisong in his hand, he let out a victorious taunt as he wiped it off and flicked the knife away. That was when he noticed the spot. A small red stain. Different from the shade of his suit, it stood out quite clearly to the man's keen eyes and he nearly choked on air. That
Fils de pute ! What a complete and utter bastardo! He would pay again for that. He would find him everywhere he went and-- What was this...
He crouched down to pick up the hat, standing again as he dusted it off. He sniffed it disdainfully and gave it a careful once over before placing it on his head. Admittedly, it looked ridiculous over his mask, but his self amused smirk showed that he did not care. He cast a look to where the Sniper's body lay and sniggered.
“Zat will teach you to keep your back turned.”
