Project Post-it. Let’s write some important messages and affix them to objects.

Nov 01, 2011 17:37

(Mods I beg your indulgence if this is not allowed)

Ok so here’s the thing. I don’t usually do fan projects. 1) I don’t usually care. 2) I REALLY don’t have time.

But let’s face it. Warehouse 13 is not a normal fandom, and Jaime and Joanne aren’t normal actresses. For that reason, some (and I refer to my co-conspirators lysachan and mandala )  of us decided that it was high time we let the amazing cast and crew (specifically Jo) know how much we appreciate the HG/Myka storyline, and perhaps more importantly, their willingness to support that storyline publicly. (And Cha gets a gold star for asking her about it at Comicon)

As any fan of Rizzoli & Isles (or you know, almost any other femslash ship) knows, its damn hard to find actresses, writes, producers, hell anyone who will say “yes these characters fell in love” WITHOUT adding caveats, or making it a joke. (Notable exception being Lost Girl, and we fucking love them for that).  But this is the US, where we like to hide our gays and we CERTAINLY don’t make them recurring characters with complex arcs, unless it’s a family drama.

So, the plan is as follows.

Posted below the cut is the letter we are going to send to Joanne (We decided to focus on just Joanne so Race’s head didn’t explode trying to write the letter and also because she has really been the most vocal about this ship. Though Eddie comes in a close second , fucking troll that he is.)  This letter will be hand written on nice stationary and sent to Joanne.

ALONG with the letter, we thought it would be cool to send our “Signatures’ on post-its. NOT ACTUAL POST ITS. Instead, write your signature and maybe a short message on a post it, and take a picture of it. If you want to send just the picture of the post it with your signature, perfect. If you would like to add a picture of yourself, you can do that too. All the picture files will be sent to atfm who will then photoshop them together into a single file that will be printed on photographic paper (I’ll have it done at the local copy place so its HQ) and it will all be sent together.

IF you would like to participate, please send your picture files (either of JUST the post it with your signature/note or of BOTH the post it AND yourself) to:  project.postit (at) yahoo.com   We would like to have this done fairly soon, as in, before the Christmas holidays. So maybe a deadline of November 31st?

Please note: We’re not asking for autographs here, we are not complaining about things or offering suggestions on how things should go next season. Any disrespectful post-its will simply be deleted. (But you gals are too awesome for that).  This is simply a way to tell the amazing cast and crew of Warehouse 13 how much we appreciate the story of Myka and HG and to say thank you to Jo for being willing to support that ship. Publicly.

ALSO, if someone has an address for Joanne they are sure is accurate, please let me know. The one below was all I could find.
Got it? Awesome, go team!

Edit: Please do not go cross posting this to other coms! I am just really not interested in dealing with drama or ship wars because someone feels like their toes were stepped on.

I love this fandom, lets keep it nice please

See letter here.

Dear Ms. Kelly,

I feel I should begin by saying that, for most of us involved in this little endeavor, this isn't what you'd call normal. It's not that we don't enjoy a fair number of TV programs or appreciate the incredible creative talents involved. It's simply that, for the most part, none of us really have the time to do this sort of thing. For most of us TV (and other frivolous activities such as eating and sleeping) gets crammed in between full time jobs (sometimes more than one), homework (stupid amounts of homework. Some of us have made the regrettable life choice of becoming grad students), work and homework (for those of us who have lost our sanity and decided to go back to school), and/or taking care of our children (for those who really felt the need to boast of having the longest to-do list).
I say this partly as a roundabout way of assuring you that none of us currently inhabit any psychiatric wards or prison facilities and partly because I hope it will give the following that much more weight.   Because, despite the ridiculous number of things my co-conspirators and I are using this project as an excuse to procrastinate from, we really wanted to take a moment and say “Thank you” to yourself, Ms. Murray, Mr. McClintock, Ms. Scagliotti, Mr. Rubinek, Ms. Williams, Mr. Ashmore, C.C.H Pounder, and all the crew (including everyone that we may have neglected to mention) involved in Warehouse 13.
Not all of us have watched Warehouse from the beginning. For those die hard science fiction fans it was love at first artifact. For others, however, the appreciation for your show has come only recently and is primarily due to two factors.  The first is the relationship between H.G. and Myka and the second is the acceptance of that dynamic by yourself, Ms. Murray, and other members of the production team.
Please understand, we’re not expecting H.G. and Myka to suddenly go skipping off down the rainbow brick road to New York to get married and have a couple of kids. It’s not that kind of show and we would never want it to be. We love the goofy history and science references; the geek humor and the action (especially the sword fighting, seriously, there needs to be more of that). But for all the enjoyment of, ‘snag it, bag it, and tag it’ most of us watch for the characters and the relationships between them.  And, while we love all the characters, it is really the dynamic between Helena and Myka that has drawn in so many of us (particularly those who would generally never watch a “sci-fi” show. Oddly enough they do actually exist).
More than that, however, we wanted to tell you how grateful we are for the complexity and the honesty of that relationship. For the fact that it hasn’t been used simply as a trope to tease the audience and hike the ratings with subsequent denials by the actors, the writing staff, and the producers that “Oh don’t worry, they’re both straight, wink, wink, nudge, nudge…”
In a culture where young people are literally choosing death to escape repeated bullying, something as simple as saying, “yes, these two characters fell in love,” without putting caveats on it or turning it into a joke means so very much.  (We also don’t want to overshadow the incredible gift that was Pete’s acceptance of Jinx. To have a lead heterosexual character not only not be threatened by a lead gay character, but to have him literally say, “awesome” when told that character is gay is something I don’t think has actually happened on a mainstream U.S. TV show yet - with the possible exception of a sitcom.)
Most of us involved in this little exercise in procrastination are lucky enough to have supportive family or at least friends. All of us, however, at one time or another - and many of us even now - hide parts of ourselves from someone: Be it parents, or co-workers, or siblings, or friends or everyone.  And no matter how amazing it is that we have found each other, it still hurts sometimes.
So you will have to forgive us if this is a rather long winded way to say thank you. We just wanted to let you know how truly grateful so many of us are for Myka and H.G. and how much your willingness to support that relationship between the characters means to us.  A single TV program may not change entrenched cultural attitudes but (at least for a while) when we’re watching Myka be a badass, Helena be wise and psychotic, or just chatting with each other about how fabulous the latest episode was, it hurts less and for that “thank you” seems painfully inadequate.

Best wishes,

Please see attached. Since we quite literally live all over the globe, rather than signing, we’ve attached our own version of signatures, along with some, ‘important messages that could be affixed to objects’
