Uh . . . .PLANTS

I am totally enamored of my garden. I cannot look at a plant in the store without wondering where I could put it. I was outside stuffing lobelia into my geranium pots today in between throwing out the moldy old couch and digging through the sodden cardboard to get at the worms (and I suppose throw them out as well.) I didn't know what lobelia was until I started planting. It sounds like an affliction of the brain.

I have recently bought three books: Rebecca and The Little Princess, for myself, and Northanger Abbey, for dad, who recently finished Emma. I haven't even finished the first chapter of Rebecca, but I have read Princess cover to cover twice. The little elderly lady who ran the bookshop is very old fashioned. Mama asked if we could pay with debit, and she said, "Oh, yes, I think so. We had some trouble with debit a while back, but the man said that I shouldn't have anymore trouble."

This brought looks of consternation to my mama's face and she quickly said that she could also pay with credit. The woman said, "Oh, don't worry about it." Mama insists and swaps the bank card for a visa, because she's been around truly old fashion places and I think she's expecting the giant motherfucker press stamp thing that she uses to "swipe" mama's card onto a piece of paper. Blew my mind.

I also got an early birthday gift from mama, a strand of pearls. Whether I get anything else is suspect. What I want is more memory for the computer, but I would be disappointed with anything else, mostly because on the 19th of June I am going to Aunt Wendy's in San Diego to take care of her two younger stepchildren, Sarah and Abby, and her dog, Jackson, for decent (!) amounts of cash. Sarah is nine, which is when children get reasonable, but Abby is three and a dervish. I'm thinking of getting a school/work laptop (!!) and putting Photoshop CS3 on it (!!!!!!!!!!) Very exciting.

As a sidenote, I have been determined by the doctor to have mild tendinitis, and recommended a physical therapist. I'm to call them on Monday. At least it is not the dreaded carpal tunnel!
