my work world seems lost in a torrent of email. i receive between 200 and 300 emails per day, many with pressing requests or demands for my attention. and that's before I get to the stuff _I_ want (or really need) to work on to move my goals along.
on friday i came across an article in lifehacker.com (
http://lifehacker.com/5887345/start-every-day-as-a-producer-not-a-consumer) which seems to make a lot of sense, building on the idea that your reward center of your brain can be tricked by the pleasure of reading a newsletter or your email first thing in the morning, and instead could be better stimulated (and you could get a lot of the work YOU want to get done) by starting your day with some PRODUCER work before you pay attention to the great horde.
well, today is my first try. woke up at 5am (yeah, i think it was that last bowl of homemade egg salad just before bed) and ZING, I was ready to go. normally i reach for my device to start the day as a consumer -- even before i get out of bed -- but today i was determined to practice it today.
i also want to get back into regular practice of writing, and i don't mean answering emails.
friday night, i thought i'd do it (start being a consumer), but then come saturday morning, i sure did reach for it and started reading away. whoops there goes an hour!
well, today's hour was spent starting to compile the remote desktop analysis and i've been meaning to spend more time working at determining the participation by team, globally. what'dya know! i'm already thinking as a producer after just an hour. yeah, this is going to be good!
