Can't believe I have failed to LJ this but I totes got the job that I really really really wanted! I was desperate for it, got really depressed when I hadn't heard anything by the time I had expected to. Then they emailed to say that I would hear later than expected and so hope was alive again. Finally got a phone call from them while I was out, so I missed the call and then had to summon the courage to call back and find out what the result was. I don't even know how to explain how extremely excitable and happy I was when they said I had gotten the job! I was calm on the phone to the HR woman but as soon as I was done I was squealing and jumping up and down; called my mum, then my dad, then my granny and then everyone else I know in the world!!!!
This actually happened about a month ago now, which is why again I'm surprised I hadn't LJ-ed it yet. Since then I've been looking forward to starting work and now actually start in less than 2 weeks time. After the first week of work I will be off to our American head office for new associate orientation for 3 days. I'm sure it'll be great to meet other new members of the firm and have a chance to get to know people from some of the other offices.
I don't want to name the firm, but I'm going to be a junior associate at a big American firm which has a relatively small London office. It's very exciting times. I don't know yet which department I will be starting in but it's likely to be some kind of dispute resolution; litigation or arbitration or something as the firm does a lot of that.
So because I had 6 weeks from finding out that I have got the job to actually starting so I have spent the last 2 and half weeks in Malaysia, visiting with my family out here. I wanted to come as I hadn't been for just over 3 years and I wouldn't get a chance to come for a long period once I start working. My friend Vicky who is currently living in Brisbane on a year out came over to meet me in KL and so I spent the first week running around the city with her, showing her all the sights and eating all the best foods in KL. It was great to be out and about and to have stuff to do. Usually with my aunties and cousins I would shop and eat and what have you, but not really do sightseeing.
Once Vicky was gone after her week here I had a chilled few days staying with my auntie, playing with the dogs, eating lots of curry and generally hanging out. Then I had a long weekend in Phuket, Thailand with my auntie, my uncle and his girlfriend. Phuket was crazy; lots of lady boys and ping pong shows (don't google it if you don't want to be scarred for life!) We did also manage to do some sightseeing of temples etc while we were there but there was lots of drinking!
Since I've been back I've been chilling again; getting everything sorted for my return home. I should really be packing now, but meh I can't really be bothered. Should get a move on though. Need to shower and what have you before I leave.
Once I get home I've got crazy times. Got to find somewhere to live in London. I've decided on the area and the rent I want to pay, so hopefully it will just be a question of looking online and booking some appointments to come and meet some potential room mates. I arrive home thursday morning and I'm hoping to be looking at places online on friday and booking viewings for monday and tuesday as I'd quite like to be moving in before I start work in 26th September! We'll see how it goes. If worst comes to worst I can stay with my cousin or some friends for a while before I find a place to live, but I'd prefer not to do that for too long!
I'm also spending my last weekend in Colchester playing cricket both saturday and sunday, so it'll be a busy weekend. And then I need to juggle a bunch of friends meeting up before I leave. Oh and I need to shop for work clothes, especially a bunch of new shirts and some trousers as well. Nightmare. Need to get on it!
Well I guess that's it; I really should start thinking about my packing now!
