Emergency Situation

Jan 16, 2006 23:30

At around 0030hours a good friend of my text messaged me saying that he had consumed numerous sleeping pills and was feeling dizzy. He also stated he was sorry he "let me down". He then ceased communicating with me.

Of course, I immediately ran into crisis mode, not knowing his physicial street address or his landline phone number, I began calling people who know him. Since it was 0030 at night most people were sleeping and had their mobile phones off. Luckily, I got a hold of someone who got him his landline phone number. I immediately contacted OPS Supervisor at Hamilton CACC and had an EMS and Police unit dispatched Code 4 (Charlie Priority) to his residence, based on a cross-reference from his landline phone number.

Luckily, I was quick enough and the crisis was rectified! It was definitely a scary moment.

Which means I got to sleep at around 0300hours after that scare.

Today, I attended my St. John Ambulance Oakville Medical First Response Unit (MFRU), formerly known as Community Service Unit (CSU), formerly known as Brigade (SJAB). I found out some very interesting things:

- I have apparently been adopted as the "Divisional Superintendent" from my previous position of "Divisional Operations Officer".
The DS position is a SSS (3 Star) position while the DOO was a SS (2 Star) position. The DS position pretty much means that I run the entire division as opposed to being second-in-command. Which means I will finally be able to promote Jon Carey to the Divisional Operations Officer position.

- We are getting our own office.
Currently, the MFRU's office is shared with the Youth Division. This lead very many problems that we just not unavoidable. With the Youth Division getting their own office, we can now set up the MFRU/CSU office the way we (myself and my officers) want.

- Billies Funding Time
We have the option of Billies funding, which will provide us monies to upgrade our services. It is pretty much set that we are looking to pick up a Bike Unit (2 Bikes, fully stocked and decaled). Pick up another Trauma Kit (fully stocked), a couple of jackets (one XL), hand-mics for our radios and finally some odds & ends of medical supplies.

Now I got to study for my PATH 108 (Pathophysiology 1) course. Wish me luck.
