Decisions have to be made...

I at a deciding point in my life, pretty much the major decision is to continue with the primary care paramedic program or withdrawal from the course.

When I received my report of my problems listed in the PCLB 108 (Patient Care-Pratical Skills 1) course I am completely crushed to hear about the core components that I had failed. As I indicated in a previous livejournal entry , I thought I may had failed 2 of the core components being tested but the final results were 4 failures, 1 pass with errors and 1 pass.

Basically, my confidence has been completely shot to nothing. Not to mention being told by the Department Head of Paramedic Practise that if it was up to him, I would be kicked out of the course but it's the colleges standard operating policy that every student get one re-write was also a major blow to my confidence.

As part of remedial process I have been placed on Academic Probation and been placed on a Lifting Contract. Which stipulates the following:
* Attend a fitness assessmet at the Sports Injury Therapy (S.I.T.) program and build a fitness plan
* Document my daily fitness routine
* Practice lifting the Ambulance Equipment (scoop, #35A Stretcher, #42 Stairchair) 3 times/daily
* Increase weights every 3 weeks @ 7% per 3 weeks.
- 140lbs Weeks 1 through 3
- 149.8lbs Weeks 4 through 6
- 160.28lbs Weeks 7 through 9
- 171.5lbs Weeks 10 through 12
- 183.5lbs Weeks 13 through 15
* Agree that I will receive a conditional pass on my PCLB 108 if I successful complete a re-test
* Should I fail to complete ANY part of that I will remove myself from the program.

The re-test is scheduled to occur on 23 February 2006 and my first ride-out with a preceptor at Hamilton EMS is 24 February 2006 (night shift), this will not take place if I do not pass the course.

The DH Paramedic Practise pretty much told me that I should leave the program, that I was so far behind that I could not catch up.

I am going to school tomorrow and see how everything ends up, then I am going to re-look at my options after that.
