Pericardiocentesis is the act of plunging a needle through someone's chest, into the sac that holds the heart, and stopping before you hit the heart itself (there's a difference of like 2mm between the heart and the heart wall).  Then you pull the infected fluid that is causing chest pain (hence necessitating the centesis) out of the heart sac.   ( Read more... )
