Pavlov's Fangirl

I've decided it's quite funny how certain song become so identified with certain things. I had my ipod on shuffle in the bus home from work today, Brothers in Arms comes on, less than an hour later, I'm watching an episode of The West Wing. Not Two Cathedrals though, Duck and Cover, from the seventh season, not one of the show's best episodes but quite good and certainly relevant to recent world events.

Io9's March movie madness has narrowed down the field of contenders for greatest sci-fi movie ever to two and it's Empire Strikes Back vs Serenity. Given that I'd happily put Serenity in my list of twenty favourite movies (although that is 'favourite' not 'best') of all time and that I'm a bit 'meh' towards Star Wars, you can probably guess how I've voted. Bit disappointed Galaxy Quest didn't make it all the way though, it was going strong there for a while, got knocked out by Terminator.

I'm following all the Doctor Who excitement with a strange feeling of detachment. I actually do believe season six has the potential to be the best new Who season yet, yet I'm kind of not getting into the hype. But I'm not counting down the days or anything. I think it's because I'm distracted by other fandoms at the moment. Such as...

ZOMG, Almighty Johnsons! I cannot wait for the season final next week (it has been renewed for a second season, yay) and the last two episodes have been so fantastic, what with the shifting allegiances and the greater focus on the Goddesses and, lets face it, it was always going to get good once Loki appeared (and is, appropriately, an insurance lawyer).

I'm betting the Eva isn't actually the Frigg, but Hel, and Agnetha is Freyja, which would also make her the Johnson boys' long lost mother that abandoned them to become a tree (the show's Wikipedia entry writer seems to agree with me on this prediction. Also, bonus points if she actually did spend some time as a tree). That just leaves Gaia a mystery (probably the Frigg, but would be cool if she was something else).

You may have guessed from the proceeding two paragraphs that I'm crazy amounts of love with the show at the moment, probably because not only its it wonderfully funny, well written and just a little bit awesomely cracky, but happens to be one of those wonderful shows that values the characters and character development and family relationships over plot twists, as really, its just a story of a twenty one year old getting a clue and gaining wisdom. Just with crazy god stuff.

ETA: Just googled 'livejournal' and 'almighty johnsons' to see if there's any comms, and my last entry was the number one hit. Depressing. You have to ask yourself how far your fannish interests have strayed from the pack when that happens.
