Lots of Thoughts on Random Things

1. In news that we've actually known for over a year, a forth season of TTOI has been commissioned (dear news outlets, this is not news), but in actual TTOI news, they're now actually starting work on the scripts. Yay and finally! Can we please have some casting confirmation now, or at least outline who our main character shall be (whether it's Nicola Murray, Peter Mannion or some new Minister from a party that the show had heretofore never mentioned before)

2. I have been watching lots of Stargate. I was trying to watch it all in order, but skipped ahead to the ninth season for some reason I can't remember (a season I find frustrating. One the one hand, politician!Teal'c is wonderful and makes me swoon, on the other, poor Sam is unforgivably ignored by the writers)

But anyway, I was watching season nine when suddenly I was struck with a crack River Song back story. She's Daniel and Vala's kid. See, he's an archaeologist/linguist who saves the galaxy by translating ancient unused languages, and she's a thief con-woman who likes treasure, that one time duped an entire planet into thinking she was a god and has an appreciation for the use of handcuffs in the context of both work and pleasure. Combine the two, and you've got River. It works. I works so well. (But then, I'm also sure that Sam's what would happen in the Brigadier and the Doctor ever had a kid - come on, a career military type who nearly always rigidly follows orders who happens to also be a genius astrophysics and adrenaline junkie)

Also, Vala and Daniel are getting their own Big Finish series apparently, which is wonderful. But really, what I desperately want is a Sam and Teal's series (come on Gate franchise, throw the Sam/Teal'c shippers a bone).

3. I saw Limitless, which was rather alright. Okay, there's those movies that you see that stick with you because a) they're good, or b) they're really bad, and then there's those movies that while perfectly serviceable as entertainment, in three years time you won't remember you went to see. Limitless is one of the latter movies.

4. I am writing. Yay! I had multiple projects on the go and never could pick one to work on which left me working on none of them, but after months of thinking to myself that I should write a Kira and Worf fic, I actually thought of a plot and now its actually getting written and taken over my brain. Oh, and a considerable part of this fic is about Klingons. Never thought I would find myself choosing to write about Klingons. Just goes to show the power a good plot bunny can have.

(I've decided there must be Kira and Worf fic because DS9 barely ever had them interact, which given that they're both quite similar (deeply proud of their respective cultures, rather conservative, grumpy, short tempered, weary of new elements and very capable of kicking ass), yet come from completed different cultures with completely different values that clash to an extent, the writers really dropped the ball and missed out on a potentially fascinating dynamic there).

5. Speaking of DS9, has anybody out there read Rough Beasts of Empire? I haven't read it, but I've read some spoilers about it, which have me ragey (put it this way, Sisko would never ever do what the book has him doing and it's character assassination to the degree of having me thinking that maybe Janeway got the better deal in just getting killed off. Also there's some stuff with Kira which irritates me a bit). Given that, I'm trying to decide whether I need to read this one or not.

6. The Super 8 trailer. I'm not one for automatically love everything JJ Abrams does, but this trailer is speaking to the seven year old me who was utterly terrified that ET was luring in my closet amounts my toys and going to get me in the night, like not other movie, never mind trailer, has every managed to before. I must see it.

7. Finally, I read Endless Nights in the weekend and feel it's time I need to read the entire Sandman series again (how has it been two years since I finished it?).

the thick of it, graphic novels, star trek, stargate, movies
