Sorry for c/ping the wording, but they worded it better than I would. I try to use the guide when it first comes out each year... and then it sits on my desktop, unused. But now there is an app! Which would do me more good if I had an iphone, but at least it will be helpful to people who do have one.

That's great that Lowe's is being awesome with Jaime. It is entirely possible that they would score higher if they answered the survey. They've been given repeated opportunities to answer the questions they are scored on, but without input from Lowe's the HRC could only score them on publicly available information, in this case that their non-discrimination policy includs sexual orientation, and that they offer health insurance for domestic-partners.

As far as Nike, there are so very many reasons why different people support or boycott companies. For example, my aunt doesn't buy anything made in China because she is pro-life. Other people only buy products made in the US for other reasons. Some people shop 'red' or 'blue.' The HRC's list only takes into account the companies in the Fortune 1000 and their policies toward sexual orientation and gender diversity. For anything else, there are other lists. Perhaps there are still places left to go shopping at the end of the day.

I was actually thinking my next pair of running shoes would be New Balance. Shop local, and it was dad's running shoe. Only ones that fit his narrow feet. They aren't big enough to be scored on the HRC Buying Guide, but they do include sexual orientation on their non-discrimination policy. Not gender identity/expression, though.
