Spoke w/Mom. Grandma's breathing is having longer pauses between breaths (what we in the nursing business call apnea). She is no longer responsive, but not in any apparent pain. Mom had a music therapist in her room playing guitar ( Read more... )

The land is covered in snow. My niece is freaking adorable and giggly. My nephew is calling out "Auntie Mary" every 5 seconds.

It's good to see everyone again. This holiday may be gnarly, all things considered, but we're here.

Grandpa is stable for now; doctors are going to do a stress test on him on Monday and if he passes, he will be moved (possibly) to a Big Fancy Boston Hospital to get a cardiac catheterization ( Read more... )

And now my mother just called me to say her father, my grandpa, had a heart attack this afternoon.

He's stable and in the hospital for now.

Grandpa's home. Catheter for urine will be in place for a few days. He's going to get a home health aide. He and my aunt live together but she's about to have serious knee surgery in a couple months so it's good that we'll get help established now.

If anyone could please send their spare good vibes towards Denver, CO, my grandpa could use them. He's in the hospital. It started out as a urinary tract infection, and now he's stayed longer than expected, he's had trouble keeping his oxygen levels up at night and the doctors were "concerned" (my aunt's words) about how his left lung was ( Read more... )
