Top 12

OK, a bit late...was a hectic week, and then even while relaxing Saturday, I just didn't have the energy or focus to watch. But that left me something to enjoy on Sunday night! And once I finish watching, I know I get to go read what others had to say, which is cool. But OTOH, I do like watching slightly closer to real time so my reactions are more in synch with other peoples'...

Melissa and Ade, disco, (Movin' on Up" Destination) Seriously, how often do we have to have disco on this show? Is this still a serious dance form?? And yes, Doriana, it can look more than a *little* cheesy, no matter HOW serious they are!! Hmm. She looks gorgeous in that outfit, but did they totally blow the final pose?

Kayla and Kupono, contemporary by Mia ("Gravity" Sara Bareilles) Mm. There were one or two points I really liked it, but one or two points where I wanted the dancing to be better. And one or two points where I couldn't tell if it was the dancing or the choreo...I wanted to feel like the addiction was holding her back more, and I couldn't tell if that was the choreo, Kayla or Kupono. But there were a couple other points where it was very neat (and the smirk moment was indeed great). (I do NOT think Kayla is flawless, geez). Or heck, knowing how little time they have to rehearse, maybe I just want to see them to it later!

Caitlin and Jason, foxtrot (Minnie the Moocher, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) oh, there is NO WAY they can do foxtrot and not land in the bottom three, surely? I say this before watching them dance. Aww, she looked gorgeous--and such a lovely costume, very pretty. He...did OK. But I suspect they just won't get the votes

Jeanine and Phillip, Russian folk dance !?!?! ("Kalinka", Barynya) Um. I guess it was good? I have no clue!! That was so bizarre. OK, didn't the producers ask for some tape before they asked for choreography?? Or were the choreographers just unable to get Jeanine and Phillip to do the cool stuff, or what?

Randi and Evan, hiphop with NappyTab ("Halo" Beyonce) Oh, that was just kinda painful to watch. Randi didn't suck as bad as Evan. Um. He's just so, so white.

Jeanette and Brandon, Argentine tango (Libertango, from Forever Tango) Fabulous, and all about her looking excellently hot and amazingly legtastic.

Melissa and Ade, waltz (Natural Woman, Mary J Blige) For a second I thought this was another damn barefoot waltz! But then I saw her heels were just nice flesh-toned ones, and I was happy again. The costumes don't work for me though--the jacketless look on him makes me think "waiter" and her outfit makes me think "getting married on a Hawaii beach" so I go "...she's standing someone up at the altar because the waiter makes her feel like a natural woman?"

Kayla and Kupono, Broadway ("The Dance at the Gym" West Side Story) Ugh, can we please get some less old musicals?? (Hah--like one that's NOT from Nigel's period of time?) But I do agree with Nigel--it wasn't exciting or dangerous. But also true, they were well synchronized and so on.

Caitlin and Jason, lyrical jazz ("Show me Heaven" Marina McKee) I so don't understand how "lyrical jazz" is different from "contemporary" other than the whole "flat feet" vs "pointy feet" thing. I liked this one, it was nice, and they were better and clearly more comfortable at it than at other ones. But yeah, I don't think they have chemistry. I think they tried.

Jeanine and Phillip, jive ("Stuff Like THat THere" Bette Middler) OK, she was FABULOUS in that. And now I want to see her in Mia's booty shaking thing that Evan and Randi did. Hee. Phillip was...OK.

Randi and Evan, samba (by Pasha and Anya!) ("Ritmo de Bom Bom" Jubaba) OMG I never needed to see that much of Evan's chest. However, he does have a nice body, which we don'[t usually get to see. The actually dancing though...I just...both dances for them this week seemed to be "let's make them look sort of awkward and silly" Eep. And I do NOT agree with Mary that Randi had flavor OR spice.

Jeanette and Brandon, jazz with Wade Robson ("Ruby Blue", Roisin Murphy--OMG she's such a fave of this show!) And Roisin Murphy is a fave for a reason, and I like this number! Whee! So cute and fun.

Jeanette and Brandon by FAR my favorites for the night. I would love to see Phillip and Randi go home, and Evan not far behind, and Jason is meh too...I really think the girls are better than the boys this season, in general. Randi just isn't floating my boat, especially.

And the Results?

The group dance to "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes choreo'd by NappyTab--I was wondering if the costumes were some sort of odd MJ tribute.

WTF is Jeanine WEARING, that gold stripper/whore dress thing?!? Dear god.

Caitlin's last solos have been better

Jason's seemed just frenetic

Jeanine, her outfit aside, was also better in her solo last week, but didn't even deserve to be in the bottom three at all, so...

Phillip was better than last week, I thought.

Melissa's was neat, because it wasn't stereotypically balletic, but used her stuff (and didn't overwork the "naughty ballerina"

Ade--did he seriously just use the "my computer is restarting/shutting down" music?? I was so stunned that I couldn't pay attention to his dancing

Caitlin, not really a surprise--of those three. Not who I would've picked of the six, obviously, but of the three, yes. (I wonder if her sister gets to be on Season 6?) I really think she was best on this last show, though, which is sad.

Phillip--thank goodness. He has not been able to keep up. I know he had a huge fanbase. And of COURSE he'll be on the tour, duh.

Sad they don't get to do a MJ tribute, that would've been awesome.
