OH GOSH I AM SOSOSO HAPPY FOR YOU CONGRATULATIONS!!!! This is so wonderful to hear, it's so exciting you're going to get to go to uni to work on your writing!

I think it's admirable that you didn't push yourself into going to uni just because everyone else was heading that way. I mean, as you've expressed above, you weren't the person you are now, and perhaps uni would have been completely wasted on you if you'd gone all those years ago when you were a different person. Now that you're actually interested, it's going to be a worthwhile experience, and not a waste of time at all. I was given a lot of "advice" about doing something other than studying Creative Writing when i finished high school because people didn't see the worth in it, but i went ahead with it because i knew that a) i wanted it more than anything and b) i didn't have any other viable options anyway so i would give myself 3 more wonderful years to think about it instead of wasting my time on a "legitimate" career education that i wasn't invested in. You've just gotta do what is best for you at the pace you feel is best for you.

Doing writing at uni may not necessarily reignite your muse, but it will ABSOLUTELY make you write more, and if my course taught me anything its that sometimes a muse isn't the be-all and end-all of getting writing done, but its more about pushing those pages out whether you feel it or not. And the more you get into the practice the less you depend on your muse (a lesson i'm trying to re-learn atm!) But you're going to get so much writing done while you're there, you're going to love it :D

Congrats again! I can't wait to hear updates once you start in March!!

Thank you so much for sharing your enthusiasm and support, it really means a lot to me :)

I'm glad you think me putting off uni is admirable, as opposed to lazy, lol. I definitely think I will get more out of it now that I'm older because when I was fresh out of high school I knew nothing about what I wanted, other than to sleep in every day, now I'm way more self-aware and I'm ready to work really, really hard for it.

I think it's so interesting that people told you to do other things than study creative writing because it's not 'worthwhile' because when I was telling people at work that I got in and then I said what for they just stared at me so blankly, or even made jokes about it. It's obvious they don't think it's a practical thing to study, which is kind of sad. I think creativity should always be encouraged.

Thanks for the insights
