Gardens and stuff

I slay me. I really do! As soon as my life starts to get hard I choose to dump more stuff on top. Just so I get really good'n'buried. I am the world's worst self-sabotager. There really oughta be an award.

See. For the past oh, 3 years or so, I've essentially let the garden fend for itself. Mother Nature doesn't DO vacuums in case you hadn't noticed. So while I was otherwise occupied she just kept seeding and growing and expanding and pretty much trying to cover the earth with as much greenery/herbage as humanly ...er... naturally? as possible.

THIS year, when I really have OTHER things on my mind, I get the great idea that I'm going to haul my garden back from the brink of total disaster. Now this isn't a simple, let's just get dirty and WEED for an hour or two or ten. Nope. It has gone well beyond that! This needs Equipment. To eradicate the native grasses that've taken over. And the pigweed (grrr! that shit has a taproot that goes to hell and back I swear!). And the worn out gravel/sand. Not to mention the removal of granite blocks which should've been moved BEFORE we put in a tree. But I digress.

Anyway. Last week I promised pictures. So pictures you shall have.

Here's the long view:

The white line delineates where I need help. From the house to the "path" which obviously is in complete need of more sand or something. Likely "or something" as I am completely SICK of weeding pathways. You'll notice the complete lack of height right now. Angelica has self-seeded in here and grows to about 3 1/2 - 4 feet tall but I think it needs more "structure". I also removed all the perennials as we thought at one time this was going to be a deck. Likely that ain't gonna happen any time soon!

This is the front view of the piece at the end from the first photo. I call it Felicity's Garden cuz our cat, Felicity used to sit on the granite blocks that were the foundation for a weird little pantry that was torn down 20 years ago. She, Felicity, also happens to be buried in that area. You can't even SEE the granite anymore as it's completely hidden by this native grass that has decided to take up residence. You can see the crushed metal chair (read: sculpture) from a "branch" (read: HUMONGOUS branch) that fell across it many years ago. The tree has since been removed. The chair remains.

Anyway. In this photo there is a considerable elevation difference from the house to where I'm standing. Probably 4 feet maybe more. So where you see the white flowers next to the bottom of the white line is on a slope.

I have some ideas but would love some input. Really. Don't hold back. Pretend we have an army of gardeners and bags of cash! Give'er!
