what a day

So, I've been working most of the day. And actually having to earn my money's worth this time.

For a large chunk of the early part of the day I was running two different basketball broadcasts on two different stations at the same time. This involved much running back and forth across the hall as well as a few trips up and down the stairs.

The latter part of my day was when it got really exciting though. Because of my apparent connections that I've developed in working for a radio station, I got to run the music at a cage fighting event tonight.

I was nervous, to say the least.

I was under the mistaken impression that there would be CD's available at the venue and that I would simply play them. This turned out to be somewhat less than the whole truth. Apparently I was supposed to bring music. The owner of the venue did have a couple of CD's with Tom Petty and the like, but not really much to go on.

Luckily, I had brought my laptop.

That's right...I just got paid to listen to my own music collection for several hours.

Well, it was a little more complicated then that.

The first hour was me putting together a playlist of songs that would fit the mood of cage fighting.

The second and third hours were me playing music as people trickled in and took their seats.

The fourth and fifth hours were when it got tricky.

I was told that the fighters would bring their own CD's to be played when they entered and if they won. This turned out to be approximately half true. Not all of the fighters had music. They ended up with tracks from my earlier playlist as their respective theme tunes.

So while I had to be alert for cues from the announcer and had to figure out who had just won from among the tangled mess of limbs rolling around on the ground...I still pretty much got paid to listen to my own music for five hours.

Sadly, most of my collection is actually on my external hard drive, which I did not have with me, but I put together a pretty solid set from what I had available. I wonder what the crowd thought of it...

If anyone's curious, the mass public of my tiny town, got exposed to the following songs tonight:

7 Days to the Wolves - Nightwish
Pain (Slayer Mix) - Four Star Mary
