Makeup (a Story)
Once upon a time
Is how the first line always goes
Happily ever after
If you try to make it so
Fairies, dragons, knights, and angels
The things we only dream
Flying, fighting, kissing, seeing
But as real as it may seem
It never goes the way we plan
Just like rules they're made to be broken
Let this be the journal of
Teenage fairytales unspoken
And expect that same line
Time and time again
But not this time
There is no happy ending
Not this time, you'll see
So here goes a little story
About you and me
Scene: Generic setting
But there's something I'm forgetting
The weather and the time of day
Dark and gray
In the dark of night
So the mood will be just right
The moon and the lightning
Set the mood lighting
Perfect girl, wrong time or place for things to go down
They're beautiful, intellectual, everything one could ask for
Now you find yourself torn between what could've been and forever more
The "what-ifs" of wondering will kill you in your sleep
Silently you'll drown yourself in thoughts way too deep
They'll whither you down to nothing, it'll never be the same
You once thought you had it all, now you're trying to figure out what changed
The blush that I put on your face
And the lipstick that you put on mine
Make up the story's time and place
Then end with once upon a time
