No fighting ... just relaxing

I haven't seen anyone fight today, but it was still a pretty exciting day.

Today was supposed to be about relaxing and taking care of things at home. I vacuumed my car, cleaned and de-cluttered the apartment, paid some more bills and returned the old cable box.

I got in bed with my technology today, plugging in the external hard drive and getting cozy with the DVR. It's almost 11, and here I am watching "Pardon the Interruption" - my favorite show on ESPN, so much so that I watch it when I'm not at work. (I watch next to no ESPN when I'm not at work - I still can afford to.) The big tests come Monday when I have "Dancing with the Stars," "K-Ville," "Heroes" and "Journeyman."

Listened to Timbaland's "Shock Value" today. Justin Timberlake is on half the record, and some of the coolest moments involve pitch-ins from Fall Out Boy (yes, them - and for the record I actually like "Tnks Fr Th Mmmrs" intro until it gets into the normal emo crap) and The Hives. Timbaland, in true rap fashion, does a shitload of bragging, and even gets JT throwing disses at Prince - the guy whose game he's totally copping right now to the top of the charts. But few producers are good rappers, and Timbaland is decent at rapping or singing, but not everyone can be Kanye West. I prefer Timbaland producing and "featuring" instead of headlining, I think, but this record is great club music. Especially the totally wicked "Bounce" with JT and Missy Elliott - a song with Elliott in it is certain to be decidedly raunchy, and it doesn't disappoint, with lines like "bounce like your ass has the hiccups."

I am making an attempt at Italian wedding soup. I love that soup, but the Campbell's Select can mocks me every time. It says "meatballs and spinach in chicken broth" right on the label. It might as well say, "Dude, it's just meatballs, spinach, chicken broth and peppercorn pasta! And you're so dumb that you'd rather buy it than put it all in a pot and cook it yourself! LOSER!" So I took the can's dare. The contents have been "marrying" in the pot for about 8-9 hours, and now I just put in the acini di pepe.

I also went to a comic book store today in Southington. I'd never been to the downtown Main Street part of Southington before, and it looked pretty nice. Found a couple of restaurants that looked interesting and may have to check out later. I went to pick up an issue of "Criminal" - the best noir comic on the market, by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, with backpage commentaries on noir films from the likes of David "I wrote 'Batman Begins'" Goyer and Patton Oswalt - that the dudes at Atomic City forgot to add to my subscription. (I think I'll just buy out the rest of my subscription and withdraw my patronage, they've done this too many times.) The store was smallish but had lots of stuff in it, tons of toys, and tables in the back for dudes who STILL play Magic: The Gathering. Engaged in some of the geek conversations (especially a long one about Marvel Zombies), and saw some things I want to pick up on another trip.

And of course, I went back to Five Guys for more burger and fries. Being a Friday evening, the place was MOBBED. Got some Rita's Water Ice afterward, and then had an unfruitful search for new casual shoes.

And in other news, there's this:

Marvin

- a pound of kindness
- 1/4 cup of cuteness
- 1/4 cup of humor

Serve hot.
