My paper on spanners with slack with Anupam and Hubert just officially got into ESA (the European Symposium on Algorithms). According to the email there were 215 submissions to ESA this year, and 52 were accepted. I was pretty sure our paper would get in, since ESA isn't a great conference and our paper was (I thought) pretty good. It would have been borderline for SODA, but it's definitely good enough for ESA. If anyone wants to read it,
here it is. Now hopefully Anupam will send me to Zurich to do the presentation -- we haven't discussed whether he'll send both me and Hubert or only one of us. It probably depends on what his funding situation is like next year. But man, I would love to go to Switzerland.
Only a couple days until reunions!
