This was strange. Not the kind of "Clock Jockey riding a Flying Banana in the Kentucky Derby" kind of strange that dreams so often employ. This was a strange that even while she was asleep and experiencing it, Barbara still knew it was strange. She was floating through a vast, space-like expanse. she could see nodes of light all around, like stars. But they were all in the distance, not one of them was close enough for her to get a good look at it. No matter what direction she went, they all remainded the same distance away from her. They shifted and evaded like a rainbow in the distance, all of them casting their pale blue and white glow on her porcelain colored, metalic body. On and on she floated, her consious self wondering where she was going, her dream self refusing to tell her. Then, after what seemed like hours she finally saw it.

It looked like a city. It was bright and glowing and full of technology. As she gazed on it a vague incling of what it was began to come to her. The last time she saw it though it wasn't that bright or clean. Back then it was dark and gray and dingy. It was a techno viral parasite and it looked that way. This was nothing at all like it had been before. It was still terrifying though. The last time she'd seen it, it had almost killed her. She had to threaten to take both their lives to convince it to shut itself down. If it really was awake again, would that threat work a second time? She wasn't sure. Especially if it had upgraded itself since then. After all, she didn't know how long it had been awake before she discovered it.

Suddenly she jerked awake, sitting upright in her chair and looking around the computer room blearily. Barbara didn't know how long she'd been out, but she would find out in a minute. She moved her hand towards the holographic keyboard to bring it up, but stopped in dismay, her mouth falling open slightly. The information was already on the screen. No sooner thought than the computer responded to her. With a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach, the red haired parapelegic rolled up the bottom of her shirt, then the sleeves as well, and observed the glowing patterns that had formed like tatoos across her body. Her only response, barely a whisper.

"Oh no... It's awake."
