[Quote: "I would prefer fics where the canon is at least partly MCU based, but I'm happy to take comic!canon fics as well"]

.... I have a stupid newbie question, which I know means you may just want to delete this and that's fine, but I would hope I'm not the only one so stupid as to need the answer. lol I'm new to Marvel fandom (I finally saw Iron Man a month ago and I've been devouring all the Avengers fics since then. lol), but when I've seen people refer to "the MCU" I always thought they meant Marvel Comics Universe. Your post makes it seem like the comics aren't part of that, so now I'm lost. Does the MCU thing refer to the cartoons only or something? Thanks for your time!

MCU means Marvel Cinematic Universe :). It is their choice of wording, so fandom's taken it in stride, but it is quite confusing!

Question. What is with Spider-man (trilogie and reboot), the Fantastic Four and the X-Men movies (X1-3, XMFC, Wolverine)? There are also part of Marvel and I must admit I read often crossover between them because I love the comic relationships between these four universes...

Those are to do with character and film right issues. Throughout the 80s and 90s Marvel sold the film rights for its most popular characters such as Spidey, the X-Men and Fantastic Four to various movie studios. The way the deals were struck meant that unless films are actually made in a set number of years, the film rights revert back to Marvel (which is why Daredevil and Fantastic Four reboots are happening, as well as why X-Men and Spidey have been getting such rapid 'reboots ( ... )

Hm, I imagine it would always come down to the issue of money and how much these companies see themselves gaining and losing ( ... )

Here is a recommended reading by the frankly fantastic tumblr fuckyeahblackwidow! There's a lot of comic canon, panel scans & meta essays by the host on Natasha Romanova's background by various authors during their comic runs and in the MCU.

Regarding a [solo] Black Widow film, @MarieMJS (marielikestodraw on tumblr) asked Joe Quesada about the possibility when she attended Kapow! Comic Convention. This was his response, condensed to 140 characters. Though there is a bit of further discussion with @kristenmchugh22 if you scroll down Marie's timeline to May 20.

I've also found the Marvel Wiki pages on specific characters awfully helpful as well as the entries on the regular Wikipedia. Perhaps consider putting a link to those as well under the Comics Canon section?

We just started a Loki-centric community over at lokisarmy. It's for all variations of Marvelverse Loki (comics, movies, cartoons, etc), but it's been pretty MCU-centric thus far. It'd be awesome if you could add us to the list! I also put in a little plug for this community over there too :)
