Today I made a tour to a couple of wineries and an olive oil and dry fruit factory. It was great, and learned some nice things about wine, for example red wine should be served at a temperature of 16 to 18 degrees celcius (about 61 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit), because that's the temperature where the wine releases its aroma and it's taste, at other temperatures it tastes like alcohol. So now I think I'll get a mini fridge thing to have my red wines at the right temperature and ready to serve. another thing about red wine is that you have to open it and let it "breath" for 30 minutes before drinking it, so you get it's full flavor and aroma. After explaining to us the process we proceed to do some tastings, and tried some nice wines, but nothing that really amazed me.
After that we stopped to have some fresh home made empanadas at a restaurant, and then went on to an old fashioned extra virgin olive oil factory, where they explained to us the process of getting the oil, and then tried some bread with olive oil, and some delicious sun-dried tomatoes soaked in that olive oil on bread. If you want to prove that your extra virgin olive oil is the real thing put it on the fridge for a while, if the oil stays liquid, then it has additives, if it solidifies then it's the real thing.
So now, new ideas for making a perfect wine party came to mind, aside from having cold meats, cheese, strawberries and little chocolates, some olive oil with parmesan cheese can be also used, so it can be soaked with sliced french bread, and also some sun dried tomatoes.... yummy!!! :-D
Still, I was not satisfied with the wines, so far i have found a couple of really good wines, but am still searching for the ultimate wine... so, in order to do that I am planning on going for a wine-tasting only tour.. that will be more expensive, but I am sure it is gonna be well worth it :-)
