As for Jeff's father, some want a traditional, predictable sort of life. Because you're the variable, that makes him uncomfortable, and he does what he can to "fix" that.

Maybe it is not a control freak thing. Maybe Jeff's father realizes that Jeff loves you and that you are pretty involved. He might be trying to slow down the clock because he doesn't feel Jeff is responsible, emotionally, physically, or finaicially, to be involved in the relationship. He might have visions of early marriage in his head and, although that is probably not what you intend, Jeff's father believes he is doing the right thing
