The Circle of Life...

Something pretty incredible happened today, and it's really reassuring and pleasant, after my uncle killed himself less than a month ago...

My mom was driving on the way to the grocery store when there was an accident in front of her. In one of the cars were two women - one of whom (named Lisa) was pregnant with a baby due Aug. 10. The impact caused her to go into labor right there on the spot. Their car wasn't able to be driven and the cops hadn't arrived yet, so my mom drove Lisa to the hospital, which thankfully wasn't far away.

She helped contact the father (Darryl) and basically tried to keep Lisa calm. Found out it was her first baby and they'd been struggling to conceive, so a loss at this point would be absolutely devastating. Darryl got there just in time to see his son be born at 4:05 in the afternoon. (Ironically, I was born at 4:05 in the morning.)

Lisa and Darryl hadn't yet decided on a name for the baby, so they insisted that my mom name him. Since he was their first son, and given the time of day that he was born, she suggested Michael Christopher...my name. They liked it, so they went with it.

I don't really know what else to say about it. It's just...very cool, knowing that someone out there was named after you. :)
