Bob Dylan...wise man, that crackhead is...
So things have changed since my last update...lots of things. Most notably, Andrea's departure date finally came. She left Monday morning. I won't see her again until May 20 at the very earliest, and even then it'll be maybe once a month until the end of September. Then once she's finally done on Sept. 29, she'll only be home for 6 weeks before being deployed for another 6 months. I really hope she does something stupid to get herself DQ'ed. You just don't realize how much you've grown to expect someone being around until they're not there anymore. Even just mundane little everyday things...it's so weird not having her here. I tried to spend every waking moment with her before she left, and now I realize even that wasn't enough. *sigh*
In other news, I continue to get more with the times technologically. Last week, I finally broke down and bought myself a PlayStation 2, complete with Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City. So now I finally have my favorite game ever, and I can play DVD's. And today, I finally pulled the trigger on getting cable internet. It should be hooked up on Dec. 6, if all goes as planned. Free installation, free first month, and only $8 a month modem rental. And the cool thing is, with the recent discount on cable TV and the absence of paying for dial-up, I'll actually be paying exactly the same amount of money that I have been - I'll just have a MUCH faster internet connection. (Also, I'm still working on getting cell phone details ironed out, but it's coming.)
Even more news...the job at Keller-Crescent seems to be pretty cool so far. Obviously I'm just getting worked in and I'm not really familiar with the daily needs of the job, but so far it seems like it'll be a good position. The people are nice and I don't think it's going to entail quite as much writing as I initially thought. It's more going to be about pulling together a lot of existing materials and making them fit together. Works for me! Found out about benefits today...insurance is dirt-cheap compared to most plans, and is very extensive. And I'm going to have 6 paid holidays in the first 5 weeks of my employment. Good timing. :)
So I think winter has finally decided to show its face around here. I doubt we'll see anymore 70 degree days. Got some flurries yesterday, and with the cold weather came my usual "one cold per winter." I generally get sick once each winter and once each summer. Well, I haven't been sick since February, so I've been way overdue. So now I'm sick. Yay me.
Good to see that the earth-shattering open-door policy has made GTF so much more busy and exciting, with new members galore. (Ha.) So traffic is lower than it was before everything came up last week and I think all of two newbies have posted since the first two days. Guess going public wasn't the answer some people thought it was after all...
Alrighty, I don't think there's anything else to mention. For once, I actually had some newsworthy stuff to post about. Now that Andrea's gone, I should actually be online more. I hope to finish getting caught up on e-mails tonight, before leaving for 4 days for Thanksgiving tomorrow afternoon. Then once I'm back on Sunday, I should be able to handle e-mail much faster than in the past few months. (Even moreso once I get cable 'net hooked up!) Thanks to everyone for being patient with me...
