Team Interview: Argosy

Aug 17, 2009 19:07

Name: argosy, also known as Shelley or Argosy, I answer to whatever. :)
Team: Peace!

Also, since I didn't bother saying I would take additional questions until *yesterday*, feel free to ask me anything you'd like to know in comments.

Let's talk about: argosy!

1. How long have you been writing fan fiction and/or making fan art and/or whatever else (vids, knitted goods, pornographic gingerbread cookies)?

Fanfiction--Since December 2005, knitting--a few years longer than that, though sadly nothing fannish. (I may have a semi-fannish song to post soon though, emphasis definitely on the "semi".)

2. Have you participated or are you participating in any other fandoms?

I started out in HP, where I wrote mostly Draco/Hermione. I lurked all over the place for a few years before that.

3. What fanwork are you most proud of? Or, what is your favourite of your fanworks? (links, please!)

I gotta cheat and declare a tie, here. One Piece at a Time (aka the one where John builds a plane) is my favorite SGA story, but the recent release of Half-Blood Prince has made me fall in love (or sick fascination, either way) with Bella all over again, and I really think I captured her in Of Dark and Bright.

4. As far as creative processes go, what type of writer/artist are you? Do you create an outline/find photo references/make maps, etc., or do you jump in and go with the flow?

As much as I can, I like to work from an outline--if I don't know where I'm going, putting finger-pads to keyboard is just way too intimidating. It doesn't always work out that way, though.

5. Where can interested readers/viewers find more of your work? (homepage, LJ fic index, etc.)

Interested readers are urged strongly to go HERE. Urged. Strongly.

6. Do you write original fiction (poetry, screenplays)? Do you create original art (comics, photographs, quilts, wedding cakes)? Care to share?

Why yes I do. If you happen to be a showrunner, please let me know. I also knit and play guitar--samples of both are (probably) coming soon to my lj, unless I am urged by a frightened populace to keep them to myself.

7. How are you so awesome?

It's a secret government conspiracy.

Let's talk about: SGA!

8. What do you enjoy most about SGA and/or SGA fandom?

You guys are all such good writers! And you write such long stories. I wish I could do that.

9. Why do you ship McKay/Sheppard? What draws you to the pairing, what do you like and dislike? Favourite scenes or episodes? Quotes? Screencaps? What other SGA pairings do you ship?

So much affection seems to come through in the show. I love the way they complement and play off each other. And neither one of them is hard on the eyes. The Game may be my favorite McShep episode today, but that'll likely change by tomorrow.

I also possess a soft spot for anyone who loves Rodney. So I enjoy McKay/Keller and other Rodney pairings, and I've written a little Rodney/Teyla.

10. Why did you choose to join Team Peace?

Sheer whim. Both teams look awesome. Although our team looks awesomer, imo. In truth, though, I love the angst. The concept of War seems made for SGA--like just starting from there would give me something to grab onto as a writer. So I guess I just wanted to challenge myself personally this time with peace.

11. C'mon, you know you wanna! Just a bit of squee about your Match fic?

It's a certain type of story which I have never written before.

12. What are your 'tells'? How can a fic of yours be spotted in the wild? (again, go ahead and make origami out of the truth!)

I wish I knew. I'd say humor and angst together. People have said I give good detail. If you know of any tells I have, I'd be thrilled if you let me in on them. eta: Oh, I know. I seem to be working my way through every iteration of Pining!/Jealous!John.

And also, sheafrotherdon asks: Potatoes: mashed, hashed, baked, or turned into fries?

I am incapable of giving a definitive answer so I will rank: 1. Fries. 2. Baked. 3. Hashed 4. Mashed.

lembeau asks: As for writing, how do you write? Do you do it in fits of inspiration, or do you let it percolate, or do you form it out of wisps of dreams?

The sad truth is that I *don't* write until I am forced into it kicking and screaming. That's why I participate in so many fests and exchanges. If I didn't have a deadline I would never produce anything. Even now I am answering these questions so I don't have to work on my story. Looks like it's time to get back to work!
