Team Interviews: Leyna

Name: leyna55, also known as Leyna
Team: Peace!

Let's talk about: leyna55!

1. How long have you been writing fan fiction and/or making fan art?
I started out in Blake's 7 fandom in its heyday, where I drew lots of fanart, wrote a truly horrendous story, and was the proud possessor of a Mary Sue (of whom I'm still rather fond). Wandered off into roleplaying and the SCA for many years and returned to fandom, lurked for years and became active again in 2007.

2. Have you participated or are you participating in any other fandoms?
I lurk in lots of fandoms, but don't participate in many. The ones I'm currently active in are Supernatural, and dueSouth. I've also drawn art in other fandoms for a challenge or simply because I felt like it - Dr Who, FF10, Chess the Musical, Good Omens, NCIS, Heroes, Xfiles, BtVS. There are many othes, where I'm just waiting for the right excuse to come along.

3. What fanwork are you most proud of? Or, what is your favourite of your fanworks? (links, please!)
My best work are the trio of SGA paintings I did in a row last year- regency , noir and steampunk. My favourite is usually my latest *g* SPN Slash D/C NSFW

4. As far as creative processes go, what type of artist are you? Do you create an outline/find photo references/make maps, etc., or do you jump in and go with the flow?
Research, research, research, and many photo references! Starting a piece is hard. The easiest paintings are ones where I have a flash of inspiration and a clear concept. The details often change later, but the concept usually carries through.

5. Where can interested readers/viewers find more of your work?
My Journal is 90% art, 10% art related (Dear Artist letters, Beta requests). I also have a DeviantArt site, but not everything ends up there.

Let's talk about: SGA!
8. What do you enjoy most about SGA and/or SGA fandom?

I like SGA (and SG1) as entertaining SF shows. I adore (all) the characters in SGA - how distinctively their personalities shine through the variable quality scripts. I love AU's for that reason - in another time and place, the characters are still recognisably themselves. In general, I love the creativity of the fandom.

9. Why do you ship McKay/Sheppard? What other SGA pairings do you ship?
They are both ferociously competant, fascinating, and complementary but different characters. They like each other, care about each other. They can be dorky together. Umm, I speak better through my art (yes, I like the secretly pining trope):

I'm usually an OTC fan (I have one favourite and like them in various pairings), but SGA is my only OTP fandom, though I'm occasionally charmed by OT4 and Teyla/Rodney.

10. Why did you choose to join Team Peace?
I've learned to trust my instincts. Team Peace just called to me.

11. C'mon, you know you wanna! Just a bit of squee about your Match art?
Those instincts that told me to pick Team Peace? I realised what I'd been wanting to paint as soon as I found my prompt *g*

12. What are your 'tells'? How can art of yours be spotted in the wild? (again, go ahead and make origami out of the truth!)
I'd lie about this, but suspect my art will be really bloody obvious. *g*

Are you a cat person or a dog person? (We know Rodney's a cat person; what do you think about John?) kassrachel
I'm neither. Sometimes I'm a goldfish person (Oh look, a castle! Oh, look a castle! Oooh food! Oh look, a castle!). More seriously I can see John getting a working dog and finding he enjoys the quiet companionship and loyalty.

what are your favorite stories to tell with your art? altyronsmaker
One of my fannish aims, is to be able to tell a story with my art, so ANY story is a bonus, but I prefer AUs and would love to try my hand at some of my favourite clichefic equivalents.

How long was the longest you worked on one of your pieces of art? velocitygrass
The most recent SPN art took 2.5 months, only because that was how long before I could post it. If not stopped I will keep working a painting and fiddling with it for months. One of the toughest lessons I have to learn is when to step away from a piece. I like having deadlines for that reason!
