MI State Time Trial...

Jun 29, 2008 23:21

This has been a year of first time accomplishments, and today was no exception.

I scored my first career DNF!

Half a lap into what probably would have been a record-setting run, the rain started, making the previously flooded section of Hines (with its accumulated algae and moss and whatsuch) incredibly slick. I found out about this when I saw the guy who started a minute in front of me all dirty and bleeding hobbling off the course with the help of a couple of course marshals.

I didn't fully understand it, though, until half a second later when I too enjoyed the sensation of the bike going sideways, and then the (unfortunately somewhat familiar) sensation of me hitting the pavement at 25 mph.

I am a bit sore, and my Cervelo is now 1/16" narrower than factory spec. Despite the somewhat compromised aesthetics, I hope it actually unexpectedly improves aerodynamics somewhat.

On the plus side, all my bones are unfractured, the bike still works, and I am now as cool as Dave Zabriskie.
