As expected, since today was the day FOX unveiled its new line-up, much Dollhouse news.
But EF&SC are showrunners? Gosh, why couldn't Tim do it? And Joss is looking to snag Jane Espensen but apparently there are budget issues. BUT JANE ESPENSEN IS TOO GOOD FOR BUDGET ISSUES. I certainly hope she will get on Dollhouse, 'cause... she's my hero. Also, what ever happened to Mere Smith? Other than Joss and Tim, she was my favorite AtS writer.
Why are the programers already my favorite characters?
I may or may not have said it before, but I really have little faith in Joss' casting ability. Yes, he's gotten better since the early days of BtVS, but let's face it: no one on that show under 35 whose initials weren't AH could act for the first few years. Some of them Michelle Trachtenberg I mean WHUT never really learned. And I've heard some relatively terrible things about Dichan Lacasdhf. Yes, yes, I shall withhold judgment til I see it.
But Olivia Williams (who I've never actually seen in anything but looks fabulous)? Harry Lennix? Amy Acker? A really adorable guy who will no doubt fill the empty hole Wash left in my heart? How could I not love the programmers to death?
I do have faith (sorry, bad pun is bad) that Eliza Dushku can carry it off. She's a very talented actress. And I like the way the boy doll looks. (Although Paul Walker looks good until he tries to speak or move or do complex things like turn on a flashlight, so who knows?) I don't like the way Sierra looks (no, I'm not going to butcher the actress' name anymore). She just looks... flat. Like she got hit in the face with something really heavy, like a truck. Hmmm. Again with the no judging til I see.
I watched the minute-long clip, which was strange and out of context. Eliza's performance was wonderful, just the few seconds that we saw. The guy (Topher Something?) didn't jump out at me, but maybe he's more of a you'll-love-him-once-you-get-to-know-him guy.
Sadly, the trailer was taken down by the time I got there. Curse me for having a life (on Thursdays at least)!
Yes, indeed. But WHY MIDSEASON??? D8 <-- sad smiley is sad
EDIT: Just found the trailer and all I need say is DAMN. Still no sign of facialscarring!AA (at least she got a mention?), but I love the programmers (and OW and HL, even though they're not technicians, but they're non-doll Dollhouse employees) EVEN MORE. The blonde kid just might be the new Andrew, except smart. Also, another Whedonverse alum: the guy who played the sleezy casino owner in "The House Always Wins"! Why do I know these things without having to look them up?
Someone on the whedonesque forums was talking about Olivia Williams' British accent. And I quote: "I hope she talks a lot. And is evil." I fully agree. Even if the show is bad (and let's face it, it's really NOT gonna be bad), as long as Olivia Williams talks a lot, I'll still tune in every week.
1001 Books I Must Read Before I Die? Out of those 1001, I've read 57. Which is actually quite shocking, considering that I find most of these books to be pretentious, wordy, and utterly not worth my time. Admittedly, some of them were read under EXTREME duress (no I'm not bitter about high school English I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT). But they were read, so I counted them.
Out of the 57 I read, I'd read 19 of them again. These are almost exclusively from the 1800's and before. Actually, most of the books on the list I have read are from pre-1900. The post-1900 books on that list I've read of my own free will are probably less than 5. I'm not sure, I didn't count that. I guess I just like old books. Plus, Victor Hugo. But no LDoACM? Lame. Also, no Scarlet Pimpernel? Also lame.
2 of those 1001 books I tried to read but couldn't get past the first three pages.
Out of the 944 books I have not read, I saw 11 of the movies/TV shows based on the books but have not read the book itself. I didn't count how many I've both read and seen the movie of.
Out of the 933 books I have neither read nor seen the movie of 1 was made into a movie starring Lena Olin. YES, I did need to point that out.
Out of those 933 books, I've read 1 play upon which the book was based and the play is probably better anyway because Marlowe is the shit.
Out of the original 1001 books, I've been IN 1 play based upon the book and therefore I get bonus points. Just 'cause.
I'm beyond excited that Cold Comfort Farm made the list. Yeah, it's not my list of 1001 books people should read, in fact I passionately hate a few of the books on the list and would set the author on fire if I was a) old enough to have been alive at the same time as them and b) a sociopath. But it does get at least one awesome point for recognizing the pure unadulterated epicness that is Cold Comfort Farm.
And now you know all about my reading habits.
ALSO, AND THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT: I just realized my layout features a blonde, a brunette, and a redhead. They're like Charlie's Angels IN SPACE! Ten is Lucy Liu.
