Thursday, Rocky called and told me that The Briefs E-mailed him; wanting a few photos in a three part action sequence for their new website. He asked me to try and borrow a digital camera because they wanted the photos ASAP.

I called around and ended up driving to Lynnwood to try to borrow Doc_Mcdowell's camera, but there was a big horrible multi-car accident on I-5 Northbound and ended up not making it in time to get there before he went to work. Luckily KayFox was with me and had a digital camera though he left his card reader in Portland. We picked up Rocky from work a half hour late and went to a big empty room with lots of cool brick walls and neon lights and took photos.

We went to Fry's afterwords and Rocky picked up a cheap card-reader.

After we got back and got the files on the computer, we tried to send them on dialup; wasn't going to work. Burned them to CD and went to lexcoyote's place to upload it via broadband on his computer.

Saturday, I went to take a NRA approved handgun safety class. Fired the .22 semi-auto first and got a great group in the center of the target where most people weren't scattering shots over their targets. Then I went to the .22 revolver and did terribly, the action was way too hard. Cocked, it was better, but still weird and I got burned from crap flying out sideways.

Next I went to the .38 special revolver. Still wasn't accurate. The double-action pull was much better, but the kick was strong and upwards.

I was not wanting to try heavier calibers, but the 9mm next was a smaller round. I fired it and felt that it recoiled far less then the .38. I tended to shoot low and to the left, but the group was good.

I tried 40 caliber next, with a defensive load. Definitely more kick! But it was more well behaved kick then the revolvers. If you like revolvers, that's great, but I didn't like shooting them personally.

Finally, I shot the 1911 .45 ACP. Lots of kick! But not too bad and I shot a tight group right in the center of the target. I looked at a section that didn't have any holes and picked up a grid intersection and nailed it.

I figured that the love of the 1911 came from a lot of servicemen who were used to it, but having no such bias, I found the 1911 was where I did my best shooting. It has a good trigger, good grip angle, in all a very nice gun.

After the class I met up with grayfoxofwinter at the range and shot his 40 caliber a little, very nice. I went four boxes of 9mm through a Glock 17 and again, shot low and to the left until grayfoxofwinter gave me some advice on squeezing the trigger around the fat grip which holds that 16 round magazine. It has a tendency to cause you to rotate when you squeeze. After compensating, I shot well with the 9mm.

grayfoxofwinter purchased targets that were a human silhouette with things like cns, heart, spine, kidney, etc. listed in zones. He is a really good shot. He lined up a headshot and got it perfectly between the eyes. Then he quickfired the rest of the magazine into heart and made a largish hole from all of the overlapping shots.

Next time I go, I think I'll shoot a lot of .22 since it's cheap, then later some .45 since it's fun.

Today, I drove Rocky to Seattle to meet with Lance and Daniel from The Briefs. The video shoot was fun. It involved a fursuited Rocky Raccoon going to the Lava Lounge, shopping at Singles Going Steady, bowling, pulling pull-tabs, and digging through dumpsters.
