legendland. I really suck at transfering shit, don't I?
She did not want to fail him. That was her reason, he was her purpose. Cara resolved to accepting the Keeper’s merely for the fact that she had obtained valuable information. The Mord’Sith had died for it, and if she could’ve not gotten back, it would have all been for nothing. The thought made bile rise in the back of her throat. What if she hadn’t taken the deal? How disappointed would the Lord Rahl be? She knew Richard. He would have come looking for her, he would have found her lying there with her throat slit on top of that rock, and he wouldn’t have rescued those people.
But. Because she had taken the Keeper’s offer, because it had been offered to her, she was able to be of use to her Lord. Despite her cracked skin swollen with promise of decay, she was glad. She was glad that she had been able to help Richard. Sitting on the rock where she dwelled in wait of death’s return, Cara marveled at the changes she had gone through since meeting the Seeker. She basked in the greatness that was Richard Cypher Rahl, that was her friend. He had given her Life after it had been taken away. Showed her the wonders of the world, even when he was the one facing the toughest burden out of them all. A silent tear fell down her cheek in thought of that man, how could she leave him? She didn’t want to. He needed her. Cara knew he needed her. Who would protect him from random magic users? Who would watch his back when Kahlan or Zedd wasn’t looking? Who would keep an eye on him while he slept at night? None could do her job better than she, and it tore her apart.
Footsteps from behind did not sway her current emotions. The tears only fell harder, because she knew who had come to check on her. Why was he always doing this little things? She wasn’t supposed to feel this way. In the moonlight, she stared at his boots as he stood in front of her. The sound of his knees popping as he knelt made her shut her eyes, she would not cry in front of him. She half expected him to laugh or tease her, but, no, that wasn’t her Lord Rahl. Instead, he gave her a comforting silence, speaking volumes of the trust between them and his understanding. When his hand reached up and cupped her cheek, she was forced to look into those golden brown eyes, and she almost very nearly gasped. Even without saying, she knew, he was going to find a way to save her. And the only thing she could do was stare back at him, form shaking as the tears came and he pulled her into a warm embrace. This was the man that made the impossible possible. This was her Lord Rahl.
