Well not really but it feels just the same.
I close my checking/savings account today due to Dollar Bank charging $20 a month inactivity fee. Yes I was at fault, and should have known the fee was being charge. Your customer service personnel showed me the paper trail that put the burden of responsibility on me. None-the-less the $241 in fees on my account came as quite a surprise when I received my annual statement. The local branch in Painesville, OH was unable or unwilling to compromise on the inactive fees so rather than suffer further fees I close the account and withdrew the remaining funds.
The account was originally open for use when I was a college student. After finishing my PhD and getting married the account became a secondary account for my family, but I still intentionally maintained a small balance in the account for emergency use. It was nice to know that if my other ATM card was lost, damage or stolen I still had the Dollar Bank account with a small reserve of cash in it to tide me over until I restored access to the other account.
Due to Dollar Bank’s policy of charging dormant accounts a monthly inactivity fee and at the same time switch to annual statements I am force to see this as a policy meant to drain an account without the owner being timely informed of the fees being applied to the account. Had I continued receiving monthly statement I would have no doubt taken action to rectify the situation.
Now as Senior Mechanical Engineer for an Engineering firm in Cleveland, OH not only will I and my family not do business with your bank in the future I will also use my influence with my Company to persuade them against doing business with your bank in the future.
Disappointed

I really don't expect the above letter to do anything but it did make me feel better to write it. $241 dollars would have bought a large quantity of ammo, or taken
GFWTR out for a very nice evening out. The $241 dollar is not going to break us, although I am not rich enought that the pinch of loosing it does not hurt. I don't think the $241 is going to make or break Dollar Bank either but given their stiff neck approach to the situation they lost me as a customer for life. Had they even gave back a portion of the fees I would have been happy to leave the account open and continued to business with them in the future. I think in the long run they have lost out more than I. I will no doubt recount this story to many coworkers, and friends.
