Talk me out of talking myself out of buying a 1911

So I have an opportunity to buy a Springfield Armory 1911 (one of the models in the Loaded series) at a very nice price and I have a gun buying itch that really needs scratched. BUT... every time I get serious about buying a 1911 and start researching and reading up on 1911's I run into the 1911 is "God's gift (through J.M. Browning) to Man" and the rampant snobbery of the 1911 fanboys. This attitude and puffed up mystic around the 1911 always turns me off to the handgun. I have seen as many bad 1911's at USPSA matches as any other models/brands. I don't think the 1911 is a bad gun, it has quite a good history but I also have no delusion of its grandeur either.

But this time the deal is very good and the itch is strong so I have stomached the snobbery so far. My only real issue/concern is that the 1911 is a single action trigger and a manual safety and all but one (my Blackhawk) of my other handguns are double-action or double-action-like triggers with no manual safeties. The cocked and locked mind set does not bother me buy my trigger finger and brain are presently wired for double action no manual safety.

I would primarily be using this handgun for USPSA Single Stack competition, I have smaller lighter and higher capacity handguns for carry.

Any thoughts? Especial on the quality of Springfield Armory's 1911s.
