Wow, it's been awhile and a lot has happened since my last entry. Things have been hectic to say the least. The pistol match I mentioned at the end of my last post. I won both Production and Revolver. I know I had shot well but I didn't think that well; certainly not well enough to win with the revolver.
The rest of that week (06/02) was uneventful but it was going to get busy.
The following weekend was two more baby showers. One down at the farm with my family. We went down Friday night and had the shower Saturday afternoon. Headed home that evening. I slip out for some groundhog hunting that morning with the AR but had no luck, it was too hot. Sunday after church we had a second baby hower at church. After three showers we had a dinning room full of baby stuff. I would swear she will be able to go her first year of life and never wear the same outfit twice. People have been amazingly generous to us.
The following week I got to go to AUVSI unmanned vehicle conference in San Diego. That was very cool. Three days of exhibits and speaker about unmanned vehicles from the size of a lunch box all the way up to Predator and Global Hawk, airvehicles, ground vehicles and even a few surface and submersibles. There was over 340 exhibitors in the exhibit hall. I made some good contracts with some small company's I would like to work with and got to talk to some of the big boys (Northrup Grumman, BAE Systems and the like) about potential collaboration on present and future programs.
While in San Diego I did miss my first OBGYN doctors visit with
gfwtr. And of course I missed Little Miss having the hiccups and I guess you could hear them on the heart rate monitor.
I read an excellent book, Old Man's War by John Scalzi on the plane. I will try to post a separate review later but suffice it to say if you enjoyed Starship Troopers -Robert A. Heinlein and Armor -John Steakley you will like this book.
I took the red-eye back from San Diego Thursday night so Friday was a waste. That evening there was a get-together at the bosses house. We had a good time. Saturday morning I had the last phone interview of candidate priests for Church. The rest of the day spent doing things around the house to get ready for the carpet to be installed in Little Misses room. That night I watch the Indians play ball while I attempted to get some work done on my proposal that was due this Wednesday morning at 6:00AM.
Sunday was church and then lunch with mom and dad for father's day. I then slipped into work and continued working on my proposal until late that night. The sleep depervation really started now. GFWTR woke me up at 2:30AM with back pain and I had to massage her back. Neither of us got much sleep that night.
Monday was spent mostly getting ready for a final presentation for a phase I proof of feasibility study we did for a small local manufacturing company. The presentation was for a system I am designing to super rapidly ( <1 minute) chill a beverage can (pop or beer).
GFWTR, now out of work, was home to be with the carpet installer Monday morning. Yeah, work actually let GFWTR go just a few weeks before she would have taken maternity leave. That was pretty raw but worked out better for us even if it was a bit rotten for them to do it. Any way that night dad and GFWTR's brother picked up all the furniture for Little Misses room. It's really starting to look like were going to have a baby, that is if the dinning room full of baby stuff hadn't clued you in.
After leaving work at 9:30 that night I went over to see an old buddy off. It was his last night in Cleveland before a move to the DC area. I didn't get home until after midnight and GFTWR was snoring like a chain saw. I had to get some sleep so I crashed on the couch.
The presentation happened Tuesday morning. Despite my minimal sleep the presentation went very well and it looks like I will soon be designing a pre-production version. It's been a very cool project (pun intended). The rest of the day was spent finishing that proposal. I was at work until almost 4:00AM Wednesday morning.
I slept a few hours Wednesday morning and then GFWTR put me to work by 10:00AM. I put the crib together, got all the other furniture arranged and we went and bought a crib mattress. That evening we went over to another co-worker's house for another get-together. I got a little buzzed and had a good time unwinding after all the stress of the final presentation and grinding out the proposals. GFWTR drove my drunk arse home again.
Today was another OBGYN visit with GFWTR. Were getting closer. Still probably another two or so weeks but definitely getting closer. This waiting is definitely getting old. Work was pretty low key as we all sort of collected ourselves and refocused after proposals. When I got home tonight I mowed the lawn and was going to work on the closet in Little Miss's room but was simply out of gas. I did the bills and am writing this post while listening to the Indians get beat, again.
