Fanfic: The heart's melody (4/?)
Today’s the first rehearsal after the incident with my so-called friends and especially the incident with Callie. I’m a bit scared of this rehearsal since Izzy and the others hae been my only friends until now and even if I have Callie and maybe even her friends, they’re still sitting like miles away and to be honest, I’m scared that Izzy and her group tell the others to stay away from me now that I’m not a part of their group anymore. Which would mean, that at least duing the rhearsals I’ll be alone.
Right now I’m sitting in front of the room. I’m early again since I’ve come here right after school. The rehearsal will begin in one and a half hour, so I decided to do my homework. I’m currently working on my biology homework. I’m a bit desperate, because I can’t find a way to understand this stupid text about the heart. I want to become a doctor so I should be able to understand things like that. Damn!
,,Hey, um .. Arizona?’’ I freeze and look up. I spot the source of the voice and break out into a huge smile.
,,Oh my god, Teddy!’’ I jump up and pull her into my arms. ,,It’s so good to see you! What are you doing here?’’ I ask after pulling back.
,,I’m joining this choir.’’ She says. ,,Don’t tell me you’re a member?!’’
,,I am!’’ I laugh as we sit down together. ,,How long has it been? Two years, three years?!’’
,,Actually four.’’ Teddy says.
,,Wow, four years ..’’
Teddy and I have been friends for ages. We met when we were five years old and became very close friends. But four years ago my family had to move to Miami because of my fathers job. Sadly we lost contact after a few months. Apperently her family moved here a few weeks ago and she heard of this choir. Three days ago she passed the examination and she is a soprano, too! Yay!
,,I can’t tell you how glad I am that you are here!’’ I admit.
,,I’m happy, too! I missed my best friend. I didn’t think I’d see you ever again.’’ She replies.
,,Me, too. And your timing is perfect.’’ I chuckle. She looks at me curiously.
,,Why?’’ she asks.
,,Well ..’’ I explain the situation shortly leaving out the fact that I’m in love with Callie.
,,Bitches!’’ Teddy says when I’m finished.
,,Yeah.’’ I replie. ,,But now you’re here. Yay!’’
,,Oh, yay!’ she chuckles. ,,You haven’t changed a bit, AZ!’’
,,I know.'’ I joke. ,,Still the awesome person I used to be.’’
,,And so modest.’’ She adds laughing.
We spend the next hour until the rehearsal talking and laughing together. Teddy even hlps me with my biology homework. She knows a lot about th human heart. When I ask her why, she says that she wants to be a cardio surgeon.
,,Really?’’ I ask excitedly. ,,I wanna be a pediatric surgeon!’’ Teddy laughs in response.
,,Cool! We can study together! The group grows!’’
,,What group?’’ I ask.
,,The group of friends who’ll study medicin with me.’’ She explains. ,,My boyfriend Owen and his best friend Derek will study, too.’’
,,That’s really awesome!’’ I say smiling.
Shortly after, the first girls arrive. Izzy is one of the first to come. She shots me a glare as she walks past me.
,,What was that?’’ Teddy asks.
,,That was Izzy.’’ I explain. ,,The one who stole Callie’s boyfriend.’’
,,Ah!’’
,,Hey Zona.’’ I turn around and smile.
,,Hey Callie.’’ I say before we embrace each other. She looks much better than on the weekend, though she’s obviously still upset.
,,Teddy, this is Callie. Callie, Teddy.’’ I introduce.
,,Nice to meet you.’’ Callie smiles.
,,You, too.’’ Teddy replies. We start a little small talk to pass the time until Mr Baker unlocks the room and the rehearsal begins. Teddy and I sit down next to each other in the first row while Callie and her friends get settled on their usual seats in the last row in the opposite end of the room. After Mr Baker’s usual greeting he announces that he has a surprise for us.
,,You already know that the MMC is one of the most famous choirs in the United States. Well, it seems as if a singer from Great Britain heard about us and now wants to make a concert with us.’’ He says smiling.
,,Who is it?’’ someone asks loudly.
,,Yeah, I already guessed that you would want to know.’’ He laughs. ,,I think most of you won’t know her, though. But I assure you she’s really great!’’
,,Mr Baker!’’ Addison says unpatiently. ,,Who is it?’’
,,It’s Katie Melua.’’ Oh. My. God. Did he just say Katie Melua?!
,,Who is that?’’ Teddy asks me. I look at her wide-eyed.
,,What? You don’t know her?’’ I ask. Teddy shakes her head. ,,Katie Melua is the best singer and songwriter in the world! At least in my opinion.’’
,,And how do you know her? I mean, it seems like only a few girs here know her.’’ Teddy says.
,,Well, my aunt moved to England a few years ago and she’s a really big fan. So once I visited her, she took me to a concert and it was awesome! Since then I’m an even bigger fan than my aunt.’ I chuckle.
,,Ladies!’’ Mr Baker shouts over all the voices. ,,I’m glad that you seem to be happy, but we don’t have much time.’’ He explains once everyone had shut up. ,,The concert will be in five weeks, so we only have a few rehearsals to learn and work on the songs. I hope you’ll understand that we need some extra rehearsals on the weekends.’’
,,Where will the concert be?’’ Cristina asks.
,,It’ll be in London.’’ He answers. Excited voices fill the room again, including mine and Teddy’s.
,,Shh! That’s not all!’’ Mr Baker silences us again. ,,Since this will be a long trip, we’re allowed to only bring those of you who are at least fourteen years old. Without any exceptions.’’ Some girls look very saddened immediately and I’m relieved that I just became fourteen a few months ago.
,,Quiet, everyone! I’m still not finished yet.’’ Mr Baker says unpatiently. ,,Even if we only take the older ones with us, we are too many people. That’s why we’re going to do a little casting . Everyone will sing the songs and only the best twenty girls are allowed to come.’’
Oh .. okay my chances just sunk to zero. I’m new and there are like fourty other girls. Why should they let me sing?!
,,What’s wrong, AZ? This is awesome!’’ Teddy asks.
,,Teddy, I’m new. There are plenty of other girls that are a lot longer in this choir and who are more experienced.’’ I say sadly.
,,Come on! You are awesome! Did you forget that? You’ll make it! We both will!’’ Teddy cheers me up.

,,Okay now, the new sheets are in your folders. Let’s begin.’’ Mr Baker says.
I open my folder and look through the songs. I get even more excited. There are all my favorite songs on the list, like ,,Thank you, stars’’ or ,,The closest thing to crazy’’. The whole rehearsal is so much fun! The facts that my best childhood friend is here and we’re singing the songs of Katie Melua make me so happy! And since I already know the songs by heart, I pick up the new music of the background choir easily. I really wanna impress Mr Baker. I want to sing in London!
I’m being that concentrated that I don’t notice Teddy holding out a folded up sheet of paper to me.
,,AZ!’’ she whispers. I turn towards her and take the paper.
,,From who is it?’’ I ask silently.
,,I’m not sure, I think Callie.’’ Teddy answers.
I unfold the paper and read it’s message.
,,Hey Zona, would you like to come to my birthday party next week? It’s my sweet sixteen party and my parents won’t be there. If Teddy wants to come, you can bring her, too. - Callie xoxo’’
I think I’m grinning like an idiot right now. Yay! She wants me to come to her party!
,,What are you smiling about?’’ Teddy asks curiously.
,,Callie invited me to her sweet sixteen party next week. And she says you can come too if you want.’’ I say.
,,Cool! Of course!’’ Teddy squeals. ,,I just have to ask my parents.’’
,,Yeah, me too.’’ I replie. I take a pencil and write a quick answer.
,,Hey Callie! Thanks for inviting us. We would really love to come, but we need to talk to our parents first. We’ll let you know as soon as possible. - Arizona xoxo’’
I send the paper back to her and take my sheets again. I’m in an even better mood now! This day couldn’t possibly get better! After a few minutes I get another message. This time it’s a number and a short note. ,,Call me when you know.’’ I look over at Callie. She smiles at me and I immediately show my dimples. I take out my phone and save her number before tiping a short text.
,,I will. Thx again. xo’’
I press send and watch as Callie takes out her phone and smiles. She looks up again and winks at me. My heart melts at the small gesture, but I do my best to hide it. My eyes wander to Addison who watches me closely. Shit! I smile at her and she hesitately smiles back at me.
After the rehearsal I head out with Teddy.
,,I gotta hurry. Tim’s picking me up.’’ I say.
,,Okay, I’ll see you next Monday.’’ Teddy replies. ,,I’m gonna wait for my dad. Say hi to your brother from me.’’
,,I will. Bye!’’ I say and turn towards the exit. I’m still smiling about the fact that Callie invited me AND gave me her number.
,,Hey sis.’’ Tim greets as I get in his car. ,,What are you smiling about?’’
,,It’s been a great day!’’ I smile. ,,Firsly, Teddy just joined the MMC.’’
,,Teddy? As is Teddy Altman?’’ Tim asks surprised.
,,Yes, she just moved here with her parents.’’

,,Oh, that’s not all!’’ I tell him. ,,Secondly, the choir will do a concert with Katie Melua in London. There will only be twenty girls who are allowed to travel there, but still I hope I’ll pass the casting and be able to sing with my idol.’’

We arrive at home and get inside.
,,Where are mom and dad?’’ I ask when I find the house empty.
,,They’re visiting their friends. Didn’t say when they’ll be back, but they left dinner in the refrigator.’’ Tim explains.
,,Okay, then let’s eat.’’ I say and we head into the kitchen. I prepare th table while Tim warms up our meal. We talk abot our days while eating and he tells me about some new girl at his uniersity. He met her in the library. He sounds like he has a huge crush on her and I can’t help but tease him about it. After dinner we head up together. Tim says he’s just going to take a shower and head to bed since he has to get up at five in the morning. We say goodnight and go into our rooms. I decide to also take a shower befor finishing my biology homework. Thanks to Teddy there isn’t much left. I’ll only have to write maybe another two or three points. Sadly I can’t concentrate on anything but what to get Callie as a present. I want her to like it! And I want it to be something special! So what should I get her?
After like half an hour of trying to finish my task, I admit to myself that it’s useless. I go to bed and try to sleep. After another twenty or so minutes of lying awake, staring out of the window and thinking of Callie, I finally feel myself drifting off to sleep. I close my eyes and immediately fall into a peaceful slumber full of dreams about a certain beauty.
