Race day is not exactly going swimmingly. I woke up with a terrible headache, mostly from allergies (the kind of headache that feels like there's sand behind my eyes and in the sockets of my teeth) and slightly from overindulging at last night's office Christmas party (hard to say no when someone else is paying!). I was heading out to pick up my race packet when Edward decided he'd go with me ... and then got in a really crappy mood because he "doesn't like feeling rushed on weekends." Packet pick-up was available until 2:00 - if that's rushed, no wonder we never get anything done on the weekend.
The line at Runtex was horrendous, but it turned out to be the day-of registration line; the early registration pick-up line was much shorter. I got my packet easily and we headed to Taco Deli for lunch. When we were almost there, I realized there was no timing chip in my packet. It seemed like it should be there, and
gudenna, who's done timed races before, agreed, so Edward and I headed back to Runtex ... only to find out that this is an untimed race. Sigh....
At this point it was almost 3:00 and I still hadn't eaten anything ... my eyeballs felt like they were going to explode right out of my head. We made it back to Taco Deli in time for lunch (they close at 3:00), and I feel somewhat better now that I've eaten, but not completely prepared to run. So now I'm sitting here debating what drugs to take - Advil, decongestant, allergy meds, or some combination thereof. I also think I need to eat something else - my usual one-taco breakfast isn't seeming like enough for today.
I'm really hoping it can only get better from here.
