Don't like em.
Modest Mouse is what we (Travis, myself, and select others) like to call an art fag. It pretty much compares to and artist taking a bucket of paint, dipping his dick in it, then slap it on to a canvas and call it art. The music has no form. They all play in different key signatures from one another. I'm not sure if they do that on purpose or if they don't know how to music structure works. Either way is just as bad. And as for the lyrics, they make about as much sense as a lot of Beatles' lyrics. "Let's take another orange julius"... what... does ... that ... mean?
The argument is that the message that they are trying to portray may make sense to them, but unless a general public can relate to it, then what's the point of publishing the music to begin with? ... and your argument may be "I know what they are trying to say." Truthfully, you don't and no one does because I guarantee if you were to compare your interpretation with modest mouse themselves, it would be completely different.
