A Book A Week - My New Year's Challenge.

Jan 05, 2010 00:02

I generally don't go in for the New Years Resolutions - I don't think I've ever managed to accomplish one. Ever. But I came up with an idea that I think is worth a shot - I'm going to try to read a book a week.

Any book is fair game, no matter the length, genre, if I've read it before or not... whatever. Preference is being given to books I haven't read before, or haven't read in some time. I'm also going to try to post reviews of them as I go.

I know there's no way I'm going to be able to literally do a book a week all year long - many of the books I have already picked out are just too long. I was going to start off with A Briefer History of Time, but of course a couple days before the new year, I picked up The Six Wives of Henry VIII. I'm debating making that my first "official" book of the year, or dropping it in favor of something else. I have, after all, read it before.

Other books on my To Read list:
The Cat from Hue: A Vietnam War Story (I asked for this for Christmas several years ago and started reading it but never finished it)
Iris Origo: Marchesa Of Val D'orcia.
The Secret Voyage of Sir Francis Drake: 1577-1580
Mary, Queen of Scots, and the Murder of Lord Darnley (Another one I've started and set aside, it's a bad habit)
Einstein: His Life and Universe (started this one twice now, the first time I misplaced it when I moved to Nederland and it took me a year to find!)
Capone: The Man and the Era (another one I started years ago. Can't remember if I finished it then or not!)
Isadora: A Sensational Life (I started this one in November and set it aside for a bit, maybe I should start off by finishing this one)

This should keep me out of trouble for a while.

Wish me luck!
