OK, lots of random thoughts and updates for you all:
I am so very proud of Thomas for creating and writing a Facebook game (Zombie Lords). He taught himself how to do it and has been working on it all summer (probably one of the things keeping him from going postal while being unemployed). I just think it is so cool.
MIL's house is supposed to close on the 15th this month. Unfortunately, FHA loan inspection turned up a list of items that must be corrected before closing, and Thomas is taking the burden for getting them done. He says that if it doesn't close for any reason, he is burning it down. And I believe him. This week, using more of MIL's savings to pay for a plumber for some pretty significant plumbing repair issues. Afterwards, we'll be moving her into an apartment near us and Barbara -- probably the complex behind Hilary and Lara's houses. The VA continues to send her FIL's military retirement checks -- keeping fingers crossed that they don't decide she should only be getting a percentage of it and ask for repayment for the past few months. FIL has been moved to his permanent facility for the rest of his sentence -- Milan, Mich. Eligible for parole in Jan. 2013.
BIL is now in Portugal on his Fulbright Scholarship. Seems to be having a good time. Wish I could afford the plane ticket to go crash one week while he is there and see Portugal. It's not on my top 10 list, but hey, I'd have a free place to stay :-)
Brother is still unemployed and living with my mom. Starting to worry about mom's finances supporting him and his two kids. Not to mention her stress level. And there's not a damn thing I can do.
Chance's behavior at school has settled down from earlier this fall. He is doing amazing with the preschool work: can write his name, his number up to 10, count to 100, knows his left from his right, and is working on phonics. We play a game where he picks a letter and then we take turns coming up with words that start with that letter. He's having some issues with C v. K or S, which is perfectly understandable IMO, but otherwise, he's doing great. He is really missing his Creative Movement class (teacher hurt her back), but is still taking his computer class, and they are about to start a class using Legos to teach numbers and letters and teambuilding. Going to check it out on Wednesday.
