One of my own little completely speculative theories is that the Man in Black went evil just from the sheer hell of having to deal with Jacob. I realize the show is going way out on a limb to say THE MAN IN BLACK IS REALLY EVEEEEVVVVVVVVVVVVVVIIIIIIIIIIIIL but, you know, in Smoke Monster's defense, he's only been killing former drug dealers and murderers pretending to be priests and those delightful kidnappers of children the Others and...

This is a terrible defense. Let's just say that I like Smoke Monster more, and this may well have to do with just liking Terry O'Quinn. I am a shallow, shallow person. I know.

I'm with you, really. I hate Jacob, and I'm terribly fond of Terry O'Quinn. And I certainly got a better vibe off the original MIB than I ever got off of Jacob. Good point about the Smoke Monster's victims, too.

My thing with the various people insisting that Jacob is good is, well, ok, yes, this show likes to do tricky twist things and show us that what we thought was true wasn't, but, meanwhile, Jacob was the leader of a group of people that thought mentally torturing and kidnapping a bunch of plane crash survivors was just an awesome idea. I sense Sawyer is following the Smoke Monster for a reason - and for all I know, it may also be based on some stuff that Sawyer learned as head of Dharma Security.

Plus, Terry O'Quinn, who needs an Emmy. This Smoke Monster role is made of awesome and I am almost reconsidering my I don't really want kids stance to bear his children :) As I said I am a terribly shallow person :)

Jacob killed most of a plane-load of people! Twice!! And who knows how many others were killed throughout time while he lured his guinea pigs to the island so he could play his ridiculous game?

Yup, I believe that Sawyer has his own purpose in mind, too.
