Streetcar

So I went to watch A Streetcar Named Desire today with my friend Karen. We had brunch before that, and it was tasty, and on her dime, though I'm sold short of about 70 airline miles. Oh well. Free brunch!
Anyway, Cate Blanchett was fantastic as Blanche duBois and seeing that play on stage was even more chilling and nauseous than when I read it. It's weird, it's like TEXTBOOK abuse, and Blanche, for all that she's batshit crazy and getting more delusional in response to Stanley's asshattery, she's still able to see how Stanley abuses Stella plain as day, and the excuses that Stella makes for him, and then Stanley raping Blanche, and Stella refusing to believe it...and Stanley and Stella's makeup sex...oy.
Honestly, Mitch had a scene where he pissed me off more than Stanley, because what he said amounted to, "You dirty whore, put out for me, and no I won't marry you 'cause my mother couldn't meet you, but since you gave it up for all these other guys, you owe me sex." Good for Blanche for yelling "Fire!" I suppose Mitch redeemed himself for throwing himself at Stanley at the very end when Blanche is being hauled off, screaming, "YOU did this to her!" and then he breaks down. Overall I felt uncomfortable, which means it was a fantastic performance.

I fucked up getting out of there. Karen and I got a cab to Courthouse and there I jumped onto the metro and went in the wrong direction for two stops, so had to get out and switch directions. That was fifteen minutes wasted. This in addition to waiting for a cab at all - I could SO easily have hopped onto the (FREE!) Kennedy Center shuttle to Foggy Bottom and metroed it home. Why oh why didn't I do that? How much time could I have saved?

And now I have a quiz in macro on Tuesday that I'm not in the least prepared for.

I'd rather flesh out my re-reimagined BSG, with some direct inspiration from Streetcar. Lysandra Baltar has a little sister named Demetria Baltar who is married to an abusive man and pregnant and Lysandra wants to point it out but she won't be using the word "ape", "brute", or "pollack", obvs. And Demetria's husband will keep trying to discredit Lysandra and disparage her relationship with David, claiming, "Oh you know men, they only want one thing, you're worthless to him, you stupid cunt."
