Dear Marshall Scholarship Committee:
It is my pleasure to recommend to you Kathleen Monahan, a gifted and dedicated filmmaker and one of the best students I’ve had in my twelve years of teaching.
When Kathleen took my “Narrative Video Production” course last year, I was immediately struck by her maturity, intellectual ability, passion for cinema, and, most importantly, strong command of the filmmaking craft. After that, Kathleen took my very demanding and competitive “Production Workshop.” I was not surprised when she was voted as the producer of one of the 3 projects of the class, BROTHERLY LOVE. I have never seen a student project which ambitious intentions were realized with such confidence and precision - mostly because of Kathy’s guidance.
Recently, I was working on my own short film SKETCHES FROM MOSCOW AND PHILLY. Without hesitation I offered the position of the producer/1st Assistant Director to Kathy Monahan. This very challenging 3-day 50-hour production that included multiple locations and action sequences was finished on time and under budget largely thanks to Kathleen’s leadership and dedication. Kathy has also a keen sense of professional courtesy and bright sense of humor, which makes any collaboration with her a joyous and meaningful experience for everyone involved.
I also have to mention Kathleen’s impressive knowledge of and passion for the 20th century European history, particularly Winston Churchill’s leadership (she introduced me to wonderful Martin Gilbert’s books on the subject).
Ms. Monahan’s academic and professional strength, her eagerness to learn and travel the world makes her a strong candidate for your Scholarship. I happily offer her my highest recommendation.
Sincerely,
Zhenya Kiperman

i don't know how people aren't down with this man
i love him!
totally my favorite teacher...AND he came out and got drunk with me!!! hahahah
best ever
he was so intrigued on our tech scout like a month ago...i was maddd hungover and he kept going on about how hilarious i must be drunk and how he needed to see it.
unfortunately for him he's a bit of a lightweight and i'm not...so i saw him drunk before he saw me :]
but i really hope he's someone i stay in touch with throughout the rest of my career
i will make it a point to!
i also hope we work together again in the future
despite his quirks and tendencies that can rub people the wrong way, we totally jive and get along
when we wrapped sketches, matt, who was the dp and obviously working closely with zhenya (and got sooo frustrated with him at times) was like "i'm surprised.....i hate him...and yet i don't at all. i still really like him and i don't get it. i should hate him...but i don't! i like him!" hahahah
i was like RIGHT!! i
that is zhenya in a nutshell
but i dont think i hate him...i know i'm down with zhenya hahah
but i understand when other people say it..cause i don't think they understand him in the same way that i understand him...which isn't a huge amount...but nevertheless, i definitely do...enough to respect him and want to continuing knowing him and working with him
and it's mutual...and that rules
