23 had heard the noises coming from upstairs. It wasn't the drone, he was sure. The drone was always quiet. So, a new "child".

He's standing in the doorway of the bathroom now, watching the boy's astonishment with slight confusion.

"You alright?"

Al let out a noise of surprise and whirled to face the person. They looked... familiar.

"... Brother?" Al asked. The person kind of looked like Ed... but their hair was different and their facial features were slightly off too... They were also taller.

"You Edward's brother? Alphonse, right?"

Wasn't he supposed to be... oh. That explained the shock at his own reflection.

Al stared at the person in confusion. Well, it didn't look like he was Ed after all... but at least it sounded like he knew him.

"Yes, that's right... Is he here...?" He paused for a beat. "Where is here? Is this Central? The last thing I remember is the Gate opening up underneath me..."

... Great. He had to explain things.

"This isn't anywhere. It's some town no one can leave, and it pulls people from a lot of different places and times. Your alchemy isn't gonna work here."

"Pulls people...? Is this inside the Gate...?" Al glanced around. It didn't look like the inside of the Gate... "How come no one can leave? Can't they just... walk out of the city?"

Al studied the young man curiously. "You know who I am but I'm not sure who you are... Have we met before?"

((A note that Mimi doesn't resembles, but doesn't actually look like the woman in her icons. Also she'll leave pretty quickly don't worry. =P))

" . . . Van? Like, what's with all the noise? Kanji's not like, moping around throwing stuff again, is he?" Mimi ascended the stairs and curiously poked her head around the doorway. "Oh. Like, hey, Ed. . . . Why are you like, in our bathroom?"

A glance at his "wife".

"It's not Edward. It his brother. He's new here."

Hoenheim shrugged, turning back to Alphonse. "No idea. I don't think there was any 'Gate' involved though. Most people just wake up in a bed that isn't theirs. People've tried to leave, but somehow, as soon as you walk out of the town going one way, you come in from the other side."

He stared at the younger boy, studying him. Then, with the slightest hint of a grin. "I'm Van Hoenheim."

Al blinked at the woman, then smiled a little sheepishly. "I'm Alphonse..." he said, introducing himself. These people seemed to know Ed...

Then Van introduced himself and Al just... stared. No wonder the man looked familiar. It was his father. But he looked... different. Much younger. Wait, he said this place pulled people from different places and times... While it didn't make a lot of sense... Al had been through some pretty crazy things before that didn't make a whole lot of sense either...

"You... You're..." he stuttered in shock.

"Ohhhh. Like wow, what're the chances -- Your fake dad gets to be your real dad. So like, happy family reunion imminent. I'll totally get out of your way, then. Try like, not to freak out like your brother."

Mimi descended back down the stairs.

Hoenheim watched her leave, then turned back to Alphonse, staring silently at the boy for a long moment.

"You should try calling Edward. He'll want to know you're here."

Al watched the woman leave as well. She was... different.

He turned back to Hohenheim a little nervously. "So... you... You know... you're my father...? Y-yeah, I'll... I'll do that. Uh. How do I do that?" He know how to use a phone but he wasn't sure how to get in contact with Ed.

"The brat mentioned that, yeah. The phones are connected to all the houses, just pick it up and talk, and everyone will hear you."

"Oh. Right. Okay... Uhm..." Al took a step away to go find the phone, then paused, changed his mind, and hugged Hohenheim tightly for a moment. "It's good to see you here, Dad!"

With that, he scurried off.

The hug was... entirely unexpected. Van Hoenheim stood there for a few moments, utterly confused. A slight smile as he turned and went back downstairs.
