i just got a call from my dad. i was about to post about how sick with worry i've been when he called.
they're fine. they stayed through katrina, it hit at level 4, and they won't have electricity for another 30 days. we got 2 feet of water in the garage, and the storage room and the boat dock completely underwater. water got up to the back door. right now i'm so happy we live on the bayou and not the beach. unlike most of our friends on the street we didn't get any standing water in the house.
dad said there was 28 foot storm surge. said the beau rivage casino had water up to the 2nd floor (first floor is at least 20 feet high ceilings). said the grand casino is torn in half. said nearly every building between waveland and mobile on the beach is either gone, or gutted.
i just can't believe this. the worst hurricane to ever hit the mississippi coast goes directly over my parents house. they live right outside biloxi, in pascagoula. 80% of new orleans is flooded. i can't imagine what it is like right now.
i didn't get much details from him, not sure why he sounded in a major rush on the phone. but i'm so happy they are okay. last night at work there was a little news on the weather channel, that i would try and watch, but it was already old news. i didn't get any of the preemptive news because i've had no tv or internet.
