Contains language of the non-wholesome sort.

This might not be particularly squeeful turned out to be quite non-squeeful, so...back away now if that will bother you.

I liked it up until the giant reset. I really did. Loved all the stuff about the Impala, loved Chuck's monologue, loved the Weechester bits. Loved all the good-byes between the characters, loved Dean never giving up on Sam, loved Castiel and Bobby coming even though they couldn't do a damn bit of good (and dying for it, too). Loved Castiel calling Michael "ass-butt" LOLOLOL little angel doesn't know how to insult anyone, but he tries so hard. Loved Dean calling Castiel "little angel," too. Loved Dean being the one to bring Sam back, loved Sam winning in the end because of his brother's unconditional love.

And I even liked Lisa being the one to comfort Dean in the end.

So yeah. Love love love until the last...what, five minutes? OMG. WTF.

I never thought I would say this but...I would almost rather that Castiel stayed dead then being shuffled off to Heaven like nothing happened, like none of the connections he made with Sam and Dean and the world at large meant anything. He gets to go home and that's it, he's done, happy to go. It was just...they wadded it all up in a ball and threw it away. GAH. I am so disappointed with that. With Dean not seeing Bobby for "a long time," too, because shouldn't that have only drawn them together? So disappointed with ALL the convenient string-tying.

Chuck as God? No.

No. No. No. NO. NO!

I get the meta there, okay? The creator of the series is the God of the show. He decides who lives and dies, how the story begins and ends. But this doesn't make any SENSE. God's not just playing skeeball in Jersey, He's fucking with humans on a dirt level and drinking himself into a stupor and calling up prostitutes. I LIKED CHUCK BEFORE THAT. I SO DID, SO VERY MUCH. He was flawed and quirky and human and interesting. This was...bad. So, so bad. And God-Kripke-Chuck dumped humanity-the fans-Becky for...not putting out? WTF.

WTF.

I'm....really, really sad that I didn't love this episode whole-heartedly, you guys. There was so much I loved. But they screwed the pooch in the last minute for me, managed to pull defeat from the jaws of victory. HOW DID YOU DO THAT, YOU CLEVER SHOW.

So yeah... Fandom >>>>>>> Show for me now. It has for a while, I think, which is why I've been less and less eager to write reaction posts and meta and squee and picspams. I'm not going to quit watching and I'm not going to quit loving Sam and Dean because it's kind of burnt into my marrow, now. I'm still obsessed with the stories we've built around these characters and their beautiful, fucked-up relationships. But I'm much more interested now in AUs than canon-compliant stuff, and I think that says something about how much the canon has failed me (maybe only me, I don't claim to speak for anyone but myself).

I remember the same happening after the fifth Harry Potter book came out. Up till then, most of the fanfic had been based in canon, at least loosely. After that, after Sirius died and the myth-fucking prophecy came out, AUs abounded in the fandom. And for good reason. I was barely in that fandom at all, only read a few fics here and there and never joined in discussion, and even now I like the AUs five hundred times better than the canon-compliant fics.

Yes, endings are hard. But goddammit, Kripke, you could have done this one so much better. The fans do better on a daily basis. I'll be getting my daily dose of SPN love from them from this point on, I think, and that just makes me sad.

incoherent rambling, supernatural ep
