Usual caveat lector: I am pro-pretty-much-everybody. Yes, even him. I especially love Dean. And Sam. And Castiel. And Bobby. And John. And Ellen. And Jo. And Ruby. And Bela. I especially loved Castiel in this ep. That he got new friends, his protectiveness of Sam, his talk with Lucifer, and everything else you already said.
Creepy reapers were creepy. I was hoping so much for Cas-Tessa interaction and was quite disappointed when she didn't show up. About the male/female reapers thing: She once said (in 4.15?) that Tessa was one of her names, so I'm assuming she has different forms for different occasions, and every other reaper we've seen was a creepy old man. Maybe reapers feel more comfortable as creepy old men and she only dresses up as Tessa because she figured out that it makes her job easier?
My interpretation of Dean's "annoyance" about losing Cas is that he's trying mask his fear for his friend. TO me it feels more like he's playing 2014 Dean than actually showing signs of becoming him. Did that make sense? It does in my head...
And TPTB messed up the editing and Cas got out of the ring of fire right before the explosion, and bamfed (I am so adopting this word) them to a hospital and Jo was just unconscious and that thing that never happened didn't happen.
