Put on your thinking caps....

Once again, I need help. Most of you are aware of my current job status (if not, read back an entry or two). I think it is time for me to leave ARCW. However, I'd still like to stay in some sort of prevention work.

I think I have found it as a Tobacco Prevention Specialist with the county. What could be better, having just lost my father BECAUSE of his smoking. Besides being PERFECT for the job, it pays $10,000 more a year!!

I want to make a fantastic impression, with my cover letter. I want the HR director to read it and be excited and say, "DAMN!! We need to interview this woman!!"

Dear Mr. Bau:

I am writing in application for the position of Tobacco Prevention Specialist, as posted in the classified section of the Sunday, October 23rd edition of The Post Crescent.

I am the ideal candidate for this position for several reasons: education, employment history, and personal dedication to the cause, all of which I will outline shortly for you, within this cover letter.

I posses a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Processes, emphasis Public Relations, from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. The education I received from UWGB gave me focus and knowledge of inter-professional relationships and made me confident in leadership roles. My studies have given me outstanding oral and written communication skills that have made me very successful in my current and past employment. My communications degree was combined with a minor and love for dance, shaping me into a very unique and creative thinker, one who is able to come up with ideas “outside the box.”

Since obtaining my degree, I have had the privilege of working solely within the non-profit field. This has made me an empathetic and understanding individual. My job as Volunteer Coordinator at The Salvation Army put me in direct contact with the Fox Valley’s homeless and transient population. Because of this, I have great knowledge of, and networks within, many community resources. With the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin, I cover all of northeast Wisconsin, as Youth Prevention Specialist. I have been required to work with culturally diverse backgrounds on sensitive disease prevention issues, as well as those with varying levels of education and value systems. I am an excellent and powerful public speaker and have a very strong background in the creation and implementation of prevention activities.

And lastly, I have a passion for tobacco use prevention issues. Having lost a father to lung cancer, because of smoking, you will not find someone more committed to the cause than me.

Attached, you will find my resume, the Winnebago County Application for Employment, and two letters of reference.

I look forward to interviewing and meeting with you.

Sincerely,

Carla N Hales
